View Full Version : Got a young daughter??
-that might someday want to get into modeling? Please, for her sake, tell her to skip the tattoo studio. I have been dealing with the commercial photography scene, and clients therein, since the mid 80's and the prevalence of ink in recent years among prospective models really limits their job prospects. There are candidates that would have gotten the job but when it comes down to candidate A who requires several hours of retouching post-production vs candidate B who is a clean slate, it's no contest, we're going with the clean slate.
Wanna model? -skip the ink until you are sure that isn't a venue you are after - or acknowledge that a whole lot of jobs are going to those who skipped the ink sessions instead of you.
(I'm not anti-ink...but it severely compromises your modeling prospects with commercial clients :))
Thanks for letting us know. I don't know my kid will be a modeling level or not, but I do know some corporate (US or foreign) have some strict policies on tattoo.
Seen more bad ink on cute females lately. It's called a tramp stamp for a reason. It doesn't look good, period.
That full sleeve may look good on paper but looses a lot on the arm.
I like "good" tats but haven't seen many lately.

Not a fan of ink on a woman, especially the ones covered on the sides, sleeves, chest. To me it makes a beautiful woman look like a graffitied train car.
I like it when it is on certain areas and they want to show it off.

I do prefer women to shave their legs if they're going to show them but otherwise I tend to like them as Nature made them. A beautiful woman needs no augmentation or decoration.
I must be the odd man out because I happen to like tattoos on women. Definitely agree with the OP though. Don't get them unless you are 1000% certain they won't interfere with your career choice for the next fifty years or so.

I'm with you.. I've seen a good number of great looking girls with tatoos that carry them extremely well. Of course there are always the ones (both guys and girls) that just have bad tats and look ridiculous.

My daughter is coming up on 2 months and I've got her scheduled for some ink this Saturday.
But on a serious note I'm weird about chick tattoos. I think some women look hot when they have tattoos, but I would prefer my wife not to have any.
Think about what they will look like when its thirty years old.

Tattoos will definitely limit your options in the corporate environment. You might want to make a personal statement, but there's no way to turn that off when it's out there for everyone to see. Hell, what you post in social media can even impact your options. When you work for a large business, you're a representative of that business, and there are legitimate concerns about your personal statements and how they may be interpreted by customers, potential customers, business partners, other employees, etc.
We are entirely unique just as we are. Going to a tattoo shop and getting inked up with picture #15 you chose from the wall of samples, like 100s of other people, makes you unique how?

What was that Jeff Foxworthy quote, something like "Remember, that dove WILL fly south for the winter!"
In thirty to forty years, there's gonna be a ton of Grannies with Tramp Stamps. Can't imagine my grandmothers with them....Disturbing to say the least.

Applied them 25 yrs ago. Getting a heart or name over the chest area, was so-so. The ones who actually wanted a design that accentuates the area, is more the norm last 20yrs for mainstream society.

To the casual observer, they don't understand why someone gets what they do. The design is between artist, one getting it and spouse. I never applied one because the client wanted it for others approval. The , pink ribbon, sobriety, in memory ones, etc. are done as symbols of support.
Personally, I don't care what you do to it, as long as it doesn't impact me. Your body, house, bedroom, your choice.

Had a similar conversation with an employee about a story I heard from another shop that had an employee with neck and face tattoos. Well the guy went on an install and the homeowner refused to let this, "gang banger" (her words) into her house to do the install. I told my employee that I would not hire someone with face or neck tattoos and he said, "that discrimination." I said yes it is and it's my business and my choice. He seemed to think that it is wrong to discriminate. I told him everyone discriminates, between what they eat and who the hang out with. Discrimination is part of life and saying it is wrong will not get you a job if the employer has a standard for hiring that goes against your from of "self expression."

Everyone in Rock and Roll seems to be covered with Tatts.....
I've got one. But I think that if you can't cover it with a t-shirt + knee length shorts... you shouldn't get it ..

That used to be my philosophy but I've loosened my policy as far as the shorts. I figured just about any job I would ever interview for or get will probably involve long pants. I kind of figure a job that is relaxed enough to let me wear shorts probably won't care too much about tattoos anyways.

Tasteful oriental theme without needing to bare all for viewing. Thanks and nice artwork. It's also classic example of Old School where less is more. The background isn't busy with 5-6 things. Main piece subliminal sun with spiral clouds and flower bordering lower back . That flower, right shoulder blade a cover up of small 1st time tattoo?

She said thanks! plus every time she spends $1,000 on new ink I get to say "just to be fair I need to buy another gun"
A friend of mine has a business where he takes photos almost exclusively of women with ink. I was never a big fan of tattoos, but I have to tell you I've been very appreciative of his facebook feed. He's constantly swimming in beautiful women, plus he gets to hang out with some cool people every once and a while too. You've probably seen some of the nice shots he's taken of Michell Viscusi as an example. If I ever getting around to building an actual website for the FFL business, maybe I'll con him out here to come take some photos of my guns with some of his clients.
This thread is making me laugh. There are other places besides right above the butt, the sleeves or the bosom to get tats. Mine were very personal in nature, marking milestones and independence in my life. They're for me, and I've had them for almost 30 years and they look just fine because I've taken care of them as the artists suggested. Sunblock is very important.
I was very picky about the design, and doubly picky about the artists. I am incredibly proud to have a tattoo by the great Sailor Moses from the California Tattoo Studio from Biloxi, Mississippi. It's art. Nobody sees them unless I let them be seen; one wraps around my ankle and the other is on my thigh. Now that I'm married, I'd confer with my husband if I wanted to get another one...but they're awfully expensive and I have a lot of other things I'd like to purchase or pay off first.
The ladies you guys know may very well have tattoos, and you just don't know it....[Flower]

Myself and old business partner, use to pound them down with Moses and another character from there, Wondo,or as he liked to be called Tropical Tom.

My parents worked all the time so as long as I was in the house by 10 on the weekday and told them if I was coming home on the weekend I was good. Not really a conducive lifestyle for me, but I had fun doing a whole bunch of things I shouldn't have been doing at a really young age. Only positive is I'm a square now!

Moses have that goofy mullet ,when you were there?
I bear a few stains meself, but mine are covered by short-sleeved shirts. I don't really want any more.
AFA as tats on women, I'm rarely a fan of them, but it depends on the woman and the artist. Although I encountered a lovely young lady in line at the Post Office once that had a fresh shoulder piece that was just stunning. I don't remember the artist's name, but the fine lines, shading and coloring work was just incredible. I wish I had some photos of it. But it was so beautiful I felt privileged that I got to see it, and that's a rare feeling.
But face and neck tattoos, bizarre piercings, and other mutilations - those people get no sympathy from me. Like former Nugget player Chris "Birdman" Anderson, all that ink all over his neck is really gonna look stupid in a few years. Generally though, I prefer girlie flesh in its natural state and not all marked up.

never understood the stigma towards ink.
A tat by an artist or a scratcher are two very different things. Had a customer who had a great "Sailor Jerry" style ship on her chest. Would like to have studied it closer but...
never understood the stigma towards ink.
For purpose of this thread I don't think it's stigma so much as distraction. For print work and such most marketing firms don't want some random tattoo drawing attention away from what they want the focus to be.... usually the product or whatever they want to showcase the product. I don't think that there is much of a stigma with tattoos these days although sometimes you'll still see it from time to time but nothing like it once was.
Moses have that goofy mullet ,when you were there?
He certainly did! 1988; prime mullet years.

In my case, it's not stigma, I just view it as Andy Warhol "touching up" a da Vinci or Titian. I won't pass judgment on a girl or guy for having tats but that doesn't mean I can't recognize a lot of them are already ugly now and many many more will be even uglier in 20-30 years time nor does it mean I think potential employers are wrong for discriminating against something that can cost them business (if it really will cost them business ... many times it's just an uninformed guess).
One of my former employers put it succinctly: NOT having a tattoo(piercing, whatever) will offend nobody. This was in a retail environment, where the salespeople already had to overcome the disadvantage of their youth relative to the client base by demonstrating a high level of product knowledge. In the modelling/advertising world I could see this as being much the same; you really don't want to narrow your opportunities with a tattoo or piercing that potential buyers for your image might find objectionable. We are supposed to be an "evolved" society where we don't form preconceived notions based on a person's outside appearance, but that is really just PC bullshit. Every single one of us makes these kinds of judgments every day, whether it's concerning the hoodie-wearing urban yute, the dress shirt wearing accountant looking guy, or the yoga pant wearing suburban soccer mom.
Tit tattoos seem to becoming more and more popular.
