Mitchel .243

A friend of mine just got a mitchel .243 Mauser rifle And we are unsure of the barrel twist.... Any ideas of how to find this out?

Mark a lengthwise line on a cleaning rod. Push a patch tight enough to engage the rifling through the bore, measure the starting point and mark the rod when it has rotated one turn. Distance between marks will show the twist rate in inches.
