Put that into Google, you should be able to see it clearly. I take Cty Rd 43 off of 285 in between Pine Junction and Bailey, eventually this leads to the Harris Park Community and shortly after that is Forest Service road 108 which takes you to the shooting area.

I seem to have bad luck at Harris Park. Every time I've gone up there for the past 3 years it's been closed for one reason or another (usually fire danger.)

Haven't been up there this year but hope to make it up there soon.

I'd like to try Harris Park for shooting and am wondering how it is for multiple groups of shooters. If I go on a Saturday and there are shooters already there, is there room for me to shoot too?

Plenty of room for lot of people. Unless there is a bus up there you're good.

How were the washout ruts ? It can be a little tricky in a few spots, not the place to take the Mini Cooper!

Passable. I took an Impreza wagon up there a few years back and it was ok. The part where you have to cross the "stream" is pretty rocky though, maybe if it's one of those all wheel drive minis you'll be ok but I wouldn't take a standard one up there personally.

It's not a bad idea to take some dunnage up for crossing that stream in the spring. Rocks and logs are scarce close-by. A few short 4x4 blocks, broken cinder block and paver pieces can make a difference.
Great shooting spot and usually plenty of room, I think the good shooters outnumber the bad as far as safe firearm practices, courtesy and common sense goes, but there are exceptions.
If you haul it in, haul it out and have a safe time. Harris park might be a prime target for the BLM, or whoever, to shut down for good. Respect the rules and then some.

My daughter has taken an interest in firearms so I gave her one of my 22's. She would also like to "shoot" through my collection. She lives in Aspen Park so was thinking about taking her up to Harris Park. I've never been and was wandering if it is still open and what the access is like this time of year.

It was open as of last summer. Better have 4X4 this time of year.

I'll check it out tomorrow AM and see if I can't provide a range report of some kind. My Rubi should handle it unless the snow is ridiculous.

Doesn't the USFS usually lock the gate in winter?

Any updates on Harris Park conditions? I'm guessing it's going into melt/runoff conditions.

Had a buddy go up on valentines day and it was open and clear, however that was before we got all this snow so I dont know what the current conditions are like.

Went up today to see what ammo my RAR likes.

The roads in were fine, wasn't crowded, and for a few hours, I had the place to myself. All in all, good day.

Went to Harris Park today, what a fun place to go shoot.

From downtown Denver it took me just over an hour. 39.531237,-105.505841 Easy drive, go out 285 to Cty Rd 43; take a right at the Loaf & Jug. Then go right on Forest Service road 108. The road winds around, it is gravel then becomes pavement for a little bit then back to gravel. The fork to the left it is shorter, if you miss it, like we did and continue around right you eventually wind up at the area. Thanks Martin, good directions.

The road in had ruts and we crossed a small creek but nothing an SUV or truck would have trouble with. If it was extremely wet maybe but with care you should be able to get in without issue.

It is a nice place to shoot, a parking area, a big clearing in the middle that is lined with logs on each side this is your firing line (a little sketchy, but be vocal and call out loudly to the other groups for safety if you are going down range to set up targets). Trees and woods surround you. I liked it much better than going to Cherry Creek or an indoor range, no cost either.

When we got there at about 8 am there was one father and son team learning prone shooting so it was their group and us until about 11 am then it got kind of busy maybe 40 people or so. Everyone lined up on either side of the clearing shooting in opposite directions into the hill side. Some groups really knew what they were doing and some seemed to need education. I could see how if some idiots did not keep their muzzle down range safety could be an issue. But I am overly cautious, it only takes one.

The one thing I did not like was how discourteous the prior shooters were. There were spent casings and shotgun hulls everywhere. What ever happened to pack in pack out and leave the place a little nicer than you found it? Maybe I was taught differently? We cleaned up our area, so that helped a little bit.

I would go back there. It was a fun day.

Has anyone been up to Harris Park lately, like this year? I'm out in Aurora so I'm not even sure if conditions are good for shooting right now or not.

My boss was up there 2 weeks ago and said it was ok. You need a 4WD to get through the gully as its a sheet of ice on either side.

This of course was before this last snow storm. Given how much we have at my place you'd likely need a shovel just to clear a space to set up shop. It's pretty deep at my place and I'd imagine it's worse up there.

I've heard it was shut down again this summer, anyone know if that is true or not?
I would appreciate the info, save me a half hour drive.

Hope not, my buddy and I blasted a few melons a couple weeks ago up there. Why would they be against the rules? They turn into dirt in like 2 hours....

Because I always find stuff like this online:

On the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland :

You may only shoot targets that are: cardboard,paper,self-healing,manufactured metallic  (metal targets specifically designed for firearms),or manufactured thrown-type clay (clay pigeons)Wooden backing on targets is not allowed.

And although I know it's not Nat'l Forest, I don't want the stink eye from some local Baileyite should I decide to shoot something other than paper.

Any updated info on Harris Park range? Wanna get out tomorrow and though this might be the place to head to. If someone has any info such as, is it open, safe, etc., would appreciate it before I make the drive. Thanks

A late post but a friend of mine said Harris Park was locked up at the gate as of the end of March. Anyone got any current information on its status?

My friend from Conifer told me the roads were muddy up there, from the snow melt.
