I would like to find a place somewhat close to denver that I can shoot out past a few hundred yards. I searched SnipersHide and found a thread with this picture in it. He said it was in clear creek county, and from the looks I am guessing its close to st marys glacier.

Anyone know where its at by chance?

Argentine Pass 4x4 trail in Clear Creek County http://www.traildamage.com/trails/index.php?id=60. Not sure if it would be the best place to shoot long range as it is frequented often by people looking for an easy 4x4 trail. The trail also wraps around on itself. That being said, I did hear gun fire (pistol) while driving it.

Be vary careful shooting or hiking around old mine areas. A lot if them are on private property and/or govt owned areas. They do not take kindly to trespassing in these areas. Some of them are private claims and not well marked. The claim owners may think you are claim jumping and can get pretty nasty. Know this from experience up there

That looks like it is on the 'Yankee Hill' trail, which does have a back way into St. Mary's Glacier/Alice. There is a BIG mud hole next to some fencing up there that makes no sense to me. To the North/East side, there is a berm that is frequently used for target practice, but mostly pistol. Colorider/mouse are correct, you need to be very careful with anything long range up there. There are a bunch of houses that back up to the national forest areas, trails double back and can be difficult to see from the wrong angle, hikers are all over the place, etc. I own some property in St. Mary's that is about 100 yards from the park property line and have been all over that area. You can't see most homes till you are almost on them or using the roads.

I might go up scouting this weekend. I found a place on google maps near argentine pass that looks like its in a valley with no tree's or trails. Could be a nice place to go if its safe.
