Denver invites immigrant children from border
DENVER – Denver Human Services is asking the federal government for grant money to house some of the immigrant children who entered the United States illegally in a wave overwhelming border facilities.
The city is applying for a grant to be used to convert its residential treatment facility, the Family Crisis Center, in part or in whole into housing for immigrant kids.

The facility, near West 10th Avenue and Federal Boulevard, has bedrooms, classrooms and a dining hall.
"It would be perfect," said Denver Department of Human Services spokeswoman Ana Mostaccero.

The federal government has struggled to find communities willing to house the immigrant children from Mexico and Central America. The feds expect 90,000 such children to enter the United States by year's end.
DDHS' Family Crisis Center has 54 beds.
"We have this facility that isn't being utilized at capacity so we thought it would be a good way to help with an impending crisis," Mostaccero said.
Protests have greeted attempts to resettle immigrant children in California and Arizona. Political leaders across the country have spoken out expressing concern or even flat out refusing to accommodate the immigrants in their communities.

DDHS acknowledged the existence of the plan following a leaked memo first obtained by conservative talk radio host Ken Clark.
Mostaccero said she was not aware of any discussions about potential pushback from the community.
"We have not," Mostaccero said. "Because it's not something that's happened yet, it's just an application."

There are some different organizations staging anti - amnesty/illegal immigration protests all over the country today and tomorrow. There are 3 locations planned for Colorado so far, Colorado Springs, Littleton, and Grand Junction. The one in Grand Junction goes from at 11AM - 1PM today. If anyone would be interested in getting out and showing some support.

Come on guys, we have all kinds of extra space in our schools, you have extra money in your paycheck that can easily be used to feed, house, and educate these impoverished children. Our teachers will be more than willing to take a pay cut and learn Spanish so we can teach them. It's not like they will bring any of their bad habits. things like stealing whatever they can get their hands on, especially from the US kids who have so much. They can spare that backpack, those gym shoes, the sweet jacket they got for Christmas. You rich parents can afford another one.

Why are you assuming that I think it is OK for them to stay and would invite one in? It does not matter if they are criminals, killers, or economic migrants. They go home either way.

I thought illegally entering the country is a crime and committing a crime brings the culprit the label "criminal" upon conviction. I'm not an expert in immigration law, but if someone were to actively assist someone in breaking the law by facilitating either their illegal entry, or knowingly remaining beyond the time allowed on their visa at the time of entry, that person would then be an accomplice and subject to prosecution.

Wouldn't it be simpler for everyone to just stop people, including children, at the border and prevent them from breaking the law?

And low and behold, all kinds of low income housing sprang up. But there are so many homeless there isn't enough housing. Hell there are still "refugees" from Katrina here.... Also, there are a ton of "not for profit" organizations that are making a buttload of cash...
