Does anyone know about these? The ones with the rail(s) on the receiver cover? It's supposed to have one or two stabilizing screws but I'm not sure how reliable it would be. I like to do stuff myself but I'm kinda leary about putting one of those Russian side rails on myself because you either have to screw into the receiver or put rivets in it.
And since I have a Tantal the gas tube mount is pretty much out of the question because the gas tube is different than that of other AK's.

I wouldn't use em'. Doesn't seem stable enough for shit. I mean maybe if you were thinking of a CCO for it....OK ,but no magnification sight. My two scents.
I have a yugo M70 and I had to pay big bucks for a gas tube rail. Look around someone might have something so you could forward mount a sight.

I have one and it's worthless for anything but a holographic sight.
FWIW, the side mounts aren't that hard to install. Check out the B Sqaured version, it comes with all the hardware to put it together in about 15 minutes.

A red dot is where I was going. But you never so I would definitely want something sturdier. Thanks for the replies guys.
p.s. I also just realized that I posted this in the wrong section! lol

ANyone have more information on the Russian side mounts as in how reliable they are and if they hold zero well? My Pops has a nhm mac-91 and he is looking to scope it out. He was looking at the POSP scope since that is what you see on most of the AK Sniper firearms. Any info will help, we are going to a Gun show on Saturday.
They sit high and aren't real comfortable, to me. I have a brand new/never used one with the side plate if interested, from Belarus. 6x or 8x. Would have to check. I love the illuminated reticle on these, though. Alot better than the leapers and ncstars and stuff.

Are these what you're referring to in being not very stable? All I'm really looking for is probably a holographic sight anyways.

Can not maintain zero while on. Will not maintain zero after cleaning. AVIOD. I would go Ultmax with red dot or the LaRue iron dot as prev. posted.
