Turns out many digital cameras, and phones imprint geolocation metadata on pictures as it takes them.

I just looked on my phone and I am able to turn off the feature.

That has been known for many years. Just saying.

It's a good thing to be reminded of.

Ya... Go try the "strings" or "exif" commands in unix on files and see what pops. Make sure you bring extra tinfoil though.

Between that and the GPS on phones (which while not in use I keep turned off), I'm pretty sure someone can find out where I am almost any time of day if they really knew how to look... Yeah, Google locations services, they know when you're sleeping and when you're awake too... [tinhat]

And many phones track your "recent places". I found my Android had a Google setting turned on and it literally had a map of everywhere I have been for the last month. Everywhere. The Android setting is fairly upfront and easy to turn off because it's just part of Google Maps. The iPhone on the other hand is a bit more sneaky. The setting is buried many menus deep within the settings and otherwise there is nothing outwardly obvious Apple is keeping a list of where you've been.

Yes, it's this is old news for those of us who are tech-aware or particularly paranoid but it's a good reminder for those who missed the news the first or second time around.

It dawned on me when I had my 3gs, the photo app pegs you wherever you took pics on a world map and as I went through them, I realized that photos that were taken by somebody else and sent to me were pegged in the exact spot they were taken at.

Are you kidding, the amount of Rads generated from that thing can be picked up by every sensor in this hemisphere.

You can strip out EXIF data by resaving the file in a graphics program like Photoshop or GIMP.

Also, I believe that some web sharing sites like imgur strip out this data before posting it online.
