View Full Version : Fake "veteran support" website wants your donations . . . and they're local too.

Sort of stumbled across this by accident the other day. Long story short: client wants me to deliver legal documents to someone's last known address at Woodstream Falls condos. Did some research on the address and a website pops up. WHOIS says the domain was just registered this month, July of 2014. Website is a mess, lots of patriotic file photos of people saluting, incomplete information on what they do, typos, links to facebook, youtube, twitter that go nowhere . . . but the DONATION link certainly works. The person I was looking for no longer lives there. Guy who answered the door looked spun on heavy pain medication, with a surly attitude, a thick gold chain, his hand kept out of sight, and a big dog barking from the next room. I am 99% certain he is not providing any "services" to veterans. I have no idea what should be done with this information, but maybe some of you have an idea or two. His "organization" does not seem to be listed as a business or a 501(1)(3) tax exempt charity, far as I can tell. Here is the link to the homepage: www.communityprogramsupport.com (http://www.communityprogramsupport.com)

I give that website three stars. Sorry I have no real input toward your question, other than a 4chan firemission.

Just looking at the website, it could just be a very poorly planned launch... Of something... But even the creator doesn't seem to know. Or it could be a scam. [Dunno]

I like how the social media links go to just the homepage. Youtube goes to www.youtube.com, same for twitter, facebook and google+

But I never trust an organization that uses Mapquest to show their location.

Also, I can't imagine a scammer being dumb enough to use their own address for this.

Did you do a reverse address and phone number through a database such as IRB? Since you're serving them, I'm sure you know about the postal forwarding papers.
After you serve them, you could report them to the attorney general's office.
