GunSmoke In Denver: AVOID
Sorry if this is a dupe, but the search function sucks. If you hadn't heard about what Gun Smoke is up to, you can find the information on KHOWs website with Tom Martino May 5 and 6.
Apparently, Gun Smoke charged a woman for a handgun purchase prior to running the NCIS check. She didn't pass the check, and the owner refused to give her a refund. Claimed he would consign the pistol for her and take his 20% off the cost. What an asshole. I'll make sure I never do business with them if their doing this.

I purchased my first rifle there. I then got my CCW with 4 of my friends.
Everyone was smiles. Shortly after those purchases my friends and I get a weird cold feeling from them.
I'll 2nd and 3rd this.
I never bought a gun from them but did have a lot of work done on a Commander before I knew better and took my CCW class there - The class was just because I couldn't find the original of any of my certs from the other classes I took, and Dick was cheap and over in an evening. Reminded me of a group of carnies, and not in the good way (there has to be something good about carnies, right?)
From nearly getting angry with me when I wouldn't accept a 2lb trigger on a carry gun, trying to charge me for replacing my adjustable Videki trigger because the 1991 came with plastic and since it was in there they must have done it, sending to the wrong company for the wrong finish, to stamping a huge copy of their logo on my slide, their gunsmithing services are as despicable as their sales practices.
I wasn't going to leave it in their bumbling hands to "make right", so I just paid for what was done right (as far as I could tell, it wasn't much) and got the hell out of there
This place just might have the biggest bunch of scumb bags in Denver.
Before I was familiar with the area and who was who, and what was what, I went in there after doing a Google search for gun stores Denver. They popped up and I am in that neighbor hood a couple times a week.
I was looking to get some work done on my 1911, so I stopped in there to check them out. Again, not knowing any better, a guy would walk in that place and they had 1911's everywhere, all the employees where wearing them. It seemed like the right place to take my gun.
I wanted a new trigger, trigger job, hammer, and beaver tail grip safety. They told me I could bring in my own parts so that way I knew for sure I was getting what I wanted......
I ordered all the parts from Brownells, got them in and they were just what I wanted. I brought all the parts and gun in to Gunsmoke, they told me 2-3 weeks. At the 3 week mark I called to check status, they told me it would be a couple more days....4 weeks.....5 weeks.....6 weeks......finally when I called them I said I needed the gun back and this was getting really frustrating. This was on a Thursday, Friday afternoon they called and said the gun was done and ready. I went by first thing Saturday morning. The gunsmith doesnt work Saturdays, so the dumb ass counter guy brings the gun out. ITS GOT THE WRONG FUCKING PARTS ON IT!!!!!! How in the world does this even happen, I told the guy these were not my parts and wanted to talk to the smith, he said he's not here today, but he probably put these on here because they are better......?????? Are you fuckin kiddin me, I spent almost $200 on the parts and got what I thought were the best ones and the ones they put on were junk, in fact the grip safety wasnt even a beaver tail, it was used and he ground it down so the hammer would work.
He said I could leave it there and the smith would call me and we could see what was up. I told him straight out "FUCK NO AND FUCK YOU" Of coarse they still charged me for it, thats fine I paid and the last thing I said to them as I walked out was, " I have never been deceived so badly by a company and I would mother fuck them to everyone EVERY chance i got" He tried to say something to me as I was walking out, but I just kept going, never heard what he said and don't really care.
What a bunch of low life scumb bags, I wouldn't go if it was the last place in the world and they had everything.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DONT EVER GO THERE AND PLEASE TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF LOW LIFES THESE PEOPLE ARE!!!!!
Oh, yeah and in the end, I ended up ordering all the parts AGAIN from Brownells and doing the mods myself........
Spleify, maybe you should give them another chance. I went in there to look for a shoulder stock for my 870 once. The guy insulted to my face the parts that I already had on the gun, and they had a bunch of poor condition factory synthetic stocks for the low low price of $98.
Haha you funny Stu, I will never go in there again. In fact when I drive past it a speed up so I can get by that shit whole faster [Driver] [M2]
I work right next door and was so excited to be so close to a gun store. I imagined killing all kinds of time over there. But they are dick heads so I don't even go in there any more. I shake my head when I actually see cars in the parking lot over there.
Yet people still go to that dickhead in Colorado Springs.......
Which one in the Springs? Dragon Man?

Really? Dragon man has never been anything but wonderful to me and my friends.....
I don't know, I've never been down there. I've just heard various people say things like he is an outright criminal and stuff. Don't know anything about him personally.
Hmm... would like to talk to some of them. Again, I've never had any problems.
He's ret-mil (gunny if I remember correctly), multi-million dollar estate and assests due to his NFA bussiness. Very knowledgeable and will talk to you all day if you ask questions. He can be rude at times because he doesn't want Joe-Schmoe in there finger f'ing his weapons... which is completely understandable in my opinion. He has a HK MP5 F/A Navy in there I would love to hold and would definitely buy if I had the money!!
I'm out there quite a bit and he always gives me free range time, targets, etc. I personally like the guy. Now you have me curious as to what what others say about him...

I went back and did a quick search and couldn't find any of the posts I was looking for.
I could not find anything on Dragon Arms either.
Lets start a new thread on Dragon Arms instead of derailing this thread on Gunsmoke even further.

When was it that they botched your 1911? Do you remember the name of the counter guy or the smith that worked on it?
Yes, please, lets get back to how much Gunsmoke sucks!! They are the worst.
Ok, we are bck on track now......
I would say it was September or October of last year. No, unfortunately I dont remember there names. If I heard the names of some of the smiths there it might ring a bell.
I dropped in there earlier this year mid-week- wierd place- had about 6 people "working" everyone wanted me to take their CCW class like Rev Jones was speaking and the punch was going to be good and cold-
of the eleven handguns in stock- they didn't know what they had and while wondering if I was on candid camera.... two people brought guns in with gunsmithing work that was recently completed and both had questions/problems?
seems more like bun-smoke to me......
I've been in there before, but never bought anything. I never really got a good feel from the place. I chatted with one of the smiths about doing some work on a rifle and he seemed to know a little bit of jack and a lot of sh*&.
Didn't realize it was this bad though. Damn. I appreciate the info though. Thanks guys!
I used to work less than a block away from there. Ever since I'm not that close, I've lost weight, make more money, and sleep better.
Seriously, that place sucks balls.
The amazing part is no one from there has commented on CO-AR15 ... if they even know it exists.

While not lending opinion either way I would like to relay an experience a gent I know had:
He had a pair of new matching Colt Lightweight Defenders he took there for the "Full House" treatment. Pistols were there just short of ONE YEAR.
He gets the call that they were ready and picks them up. Huge logo etched/sandblasted into the side of the slides and probabley .050 deep and illegible. Facet work was performed to slide stop, safety and mainspring housings with what appeared to be a cut off wheel in a Dremel. No symmetry, just random cuts with no pattern of varying depth and length. Interior of one slide had big Dremel cuts in the locking lug area for unknown reasons.
Triggers, one had a gritty and creepy pull that broke at 6# 12 oz with considerable overtravel. The other had measurable take up and broke at 5# 3 oz and not enough travel, sear was bumping the half cock notch and the sear nose was ruined.
One had failure to extract issues, the extractor had been "Polished" to the extent that not enough hook was available to reliably catch the case rim. Both were under tensioned.
One pistol would not go into battery consistently.
He chose not to take them back there for repair.
Both run 100% now.
Draw your own conclusions.......................................
Huge logo etched/sandblasted into the side of the slides and probabley .050 deep and illegible.
Jeez, I was pissed but sounds like I got off pretty good. Just like the billboard on my Ruger's, I've learned to ignore their logo. I'm not happy about it, but it's better than a 12 lb trigger

I hear they put their logo on guns to make sure you don't leave anything behind when you wipe your ass with your gun and throw it through their window.

That logo is not too bad, the ones on the pair took up the entire front of the slide. Huge with not much definition, looked like a picture out of focus.

If any shop engraved THEIR logo on MY gun, I'd sue their asses! I'm not advertising for ANYBODY! I won't drive a car off a lot until their dealership badge is removed, and I won't even wear Harley t-shirts anymore. Want me to advertise your business? Let's discuss appropriate ad rates.

Geez, their have been some bad experiences.
On a good note, my buddy had a deformed gas port in his Mini-14 barrel and they did a good job reshaping it. It took 6 weeks, but....
I recently called about doing some non-destructive testing (magnetic partical inspection or dye penetrant) on an AK-47 trunion and they said it would take 6 weeks and $150. I just can't wait that long.

Were you informed, ahead of time, they were going to do it?
Did you agree to it?

You just roll on the ground laughing if you'd seen the looks I've gotten from car salesmen when I demanded they either remove their logo's from the vehicles I purchased from them or pay me $1000 for short-term advertising fees (yeah, short-term as in "just until I drive off your lot").
They've removed the sticker logos but thought they were pretty cute by leaving their logo'd license plate frame on. I've wanted to remov them right their on their lot, pull out black spray paint, paint over the logo, and re-attach the frame. - I just wait to do that @ home. I have driven back onto their lots within a day with the frame painted over (did it just last June when I traded in my truck for another truck). It was clear to me that they noticed, they just didn't say anything.

Not to the best of my knowledge, it's possible that I overlooked some kind of fine print somewhere. It was quite a while ago.
I didn't demand they fix it because I just wanted to get away from those pricks, and I seriously believed that they would do the gunsmith equivalent of spitting in my food.
Where is this place, anyway? Address, etc. I'd kinda like to go in there and waste their time, cause some irritation, piss 'em off if possible. Maybe even mention what horrible things I've heard about the place on the internet. Not just on this site either, I've read about them on some 1911 forums too.

gunsmoke was all over peter boyles show again the other day... they were going out to the range with gunsmoke to learn stuff... marketing I guess is why they still exist.
Did they move? When their shop (near 38th & Wads) closed I assumed they went bust. They screwed up one of my guns too so if they're still in business I'll pile on the "never do business with these jerks" bandwagon.

Yes they did.
I took a Saiga 12 in to have them braze a muzzle brake on. It took forever & when I went to get it back, for 125.00, they had baked a finish on the brake and ONLY half of the barrel. They said it would get dulller, IT NEVER DID.
Dumb asses had to mask off the stock, Why Not just do all 8" of the barrel showing, NEVER AGAIN !
A friend of mine had a bolt gun drilled and tapped by the clowns at Gunsmoke.
They screwed up and did two of the holes off center.
I wouldn't take a pellet gun to that place.
Plus, if you ever actually bought a gun from them... well, I hope they used the vaseline....

I don't think that anyone actually purchases a firearm from Gunsmoke. They just display guns with HUGE price tags on them as a hobby.
A buddy and I took their CCW class over ten years ago. Rich Wyatt was mildly entertaining, but also mildly incorrect on a number of key points.
I'm absolutely shocked, shocked I tell ya, that Gunsmoke is still in business.
This thread explains a lot of things that a friend of mine said recently. He said he went in and saw a Glock for $900. I figured they had done some extensive work to it to make it the Chuck Norris of Glocks, but he said it must be all internal, because it certainly looked stock. I've never had any interest in going there, it doesn't seem like they have anything to offer that I can't get anywhere else.

Found this (http://www.ripoffreport.com/gun-shops/rich-wyatt-gunsmoke/gunsmoke-owner-rich-wyatt-in-ddafw.htm)while poking around for info on Gunsmoke.
Gunsmoke - Owner Rich Wyatt Intimating Gunshop owner, Trys to Browbeat and interragate Consumer over a refund Wheatridge Colorado
I heard about the class on handling guns on the Peter Boyles show. I signed up on the phone in April for my daughter and I to take the class. The total cost was $1500 and the first available class was the end of August. Because of changing circumstances, we decided to cancel the classes and about 2 weeks ago My daughter called to cancel. The employee on the phone said the classes were non-refundable and that we signed a contract to that affect. When my daughter called and told me, I informed her that I didn't sign anything and did not know that it was non-refundable. She called back and the employee said she would have to talk to the instructor and that he was out of town and would call her back. She had to call several times and finally was called back by the owner Rich Wyatt. These are the points from the conversation:
1. He said we signed a contract and we were required to sign this within 3 days of signing up--she told him no and there were no papers signed.
2. He said I was given a verbal instruction that there are no refunds--she said no.
3. During the whole conversation he kept calling her a liar and kept talking over her and kept escalating.
...
There is quite a bit more on the link - too long to directly quote it all...

Well
With all of the clatter I had to go see for myself.
it looks nice.
I was greeted and people did speak to me. One might attribute this to me having met Richard earlier that day elsewhere, I cannot say one way or the other.
The General feeling I got from a few of the employees was that that they weren't really happy with their situations or location.
The selection of weapons I saw was more for the collector or higher end shooter.
They did not have a wide selection of anything I might carry everyday, But they did have a few.
I have to be honest, I did not have allot of interaction with them, I cannot speak for their gunsmithing as I will not use anyone but Bert. I cannot say anything about their sales service practices as I didn't buy anything. My boys and I went in, Browsed, fondled a few guns and hung out for a bit.
I'm not going to give a raving review, but I have nothing negative to say
edit: the TV Show producer has an odd view of "Agreements"
That was more than "a single minivan and a few people."
had my first business dealing (trade) with gunsmoke today
trade went well . even though they were very busy they still had time for my little trade (less than 100 bucks). so dont be scared if they are busy and the fancy guns by the door , if you have patience so do they .
still cant vouch for the gunsmith work and probably never will be able to as ill stick with bp tactical .no offense to gunsmoke , i just like to stick to my own kind (as in other forum members) . but the next time in looking for a fair trade or to purchase a rifle (c&r or mil surplus , as thats what im into) , ill stop by and see whats on the lot for sure and wont shy others from doing the same.

It's been a few years since I've been to Gunsmoke for several reasons. I was lucky enough to not suffer the frustration of having any work done to a pistol, only because I needed the use of said pistol for the 18 months I was asked to be without it.
Spoke to a guy and asked if I brought in an older series 70 Colt, how much it would take to update it and make it a good duty gun. First, I almost **** when he told me $2500 and then when he said it would be a year and half to get it back, I actually laughed out loud. I said, and I quote "Are you ****ing kidding me?". Needless to say, the conversation turned south with him telling me they were the best in the business and nobody can put out a better 1911. I told the guy that I really doubt they could make that old battle rattle colt work better than my Les Baer that cost much less that $2500. At that point, he got pretty ****ty and basically told me I obviously didn't know what I was talking about etc and all the famous people that own their guns etc.....Guess I didn't know John Elway was trading shots with people on a daily basis and demanded the best.
Long story short, I left and haven't been back and have steered as many people away as I could.
Oh, and took my Colt to Rocky Mountain Arms, $700 and two weeks later and it works great, still isn't a Les Baer though[Tooth]

I haven't posted here in a long time (no excuse, I just do that occasionally), and I'm sure there are other threads devoted to that show (I'd have to look and this was still in my subscribed list) - discovering that show last night increased my blood pressure significantly.

He will eventually say something on that show to embarrass the firearms community. I've yet to encounter the guy, in or out of the shop, that he didn't pull some stunt that I'd hate to be associated with.

This is an fyi only. Nothing to do with the owner or the boobies. I went to Gunsmoke today. Decided to check it out after all of the discussions, had not been there in several years. Pretty crowded, people coming in with kids, taking pictures, sitting in the chairs and just hanging out, feeling important I guess. Lots of employees in attendance, far more than would seem necessary for that floor space. Nice enough, but seemed a little haggard and harried with what sounded like lots of dumb questions about stuff people see on the show. Phone ringing constantly. Surprisingly enough to me, I did see some really good deals on some modern pistols in the showcases. Like any other store, there was some stuff that seemed overpriced, some stuff at regular retail, and some stuff that were to my fairly well educated eye- really good deals. The only "star" in attendance was the huge gunsmith, who waddles around like his next stop needs to be at the Hover-round store. Discovery channel people running around with their walkie talkies as well. T-shirts selling for $27.95 seemed to be the big sellers while I was there. Lots of logo stuff for sale, some boobie pics, etc. Ammo a mite overpriced, not much in the way of accessories, quite a few clunker, junker rifles stacked against the wall. Nobody being nasty or arrogant, just busy people trying to keep up with the regular work and the customers while the phone was ringing off the hook. They got me the mainspring retaining pin I was looking for as well, and were pretty cool about it. Even offered to autograph it for me. That guy was just kidding with me at that point when it likely became apparent to him that I was not a wide-eyed gawker but just another gun guy.
so, did you buy an autographed t-shirt to wear to your job? that would be funny.

Or a turtle neck? [ROFL1]
You know what they say about women with long necks... more room for... more jewelry. [Tooth]
and boobies do not appear to be in attendance all of the time.[Sofa]
The only "star" in attendance was the huge gunsmith, who waddles around like his next stop needs to be at the Hover-round store.
I thought you said no boobies.....his appear to be HUGE on the show

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong show but I don't recall any boobies that were terribly impressive from the few excerpts I've seen ... and the one under 18 sounded like her IQ was lower than her bra size.

Like them or not the fact that Rich is pimping his underage daughter in the name of ratings, is of it self grounds for a good beating.
Not to say in 3-4 years a fair amount of peruvian nose candy, will make her one fine exotic dancer.

As I noted, I was commenting on the store itself, prices, etc.- not the ownership or how they are represented on TV or here. I thought a slightly different perspective might be useful and/or interesting. I saw a couple of absolutely screaming deals in their showcases. It's all about knowing what you are looking at.

I'm sure there are some deals as they are not too knowledgeable on things they don't want to be, ak's ar's, fn's.
However there comes a time when principle trumps a deal. I knew Rich when he first opened that small shop on wadsworth, many years ago. I didn't spend money there then, i would not today.
