View Full Version : Oh hell I made my jeep bleed, hopefully I didn't kill it.

I feel like I am performing surgery without a doctors license. I'm guessing a 3 hour water pump should take me 2 days. Jeep has been sitting idle for 11 months because the water pump was failing. I should have paid attention to my Uncle working on engines.

You know that thought in your head that says "I hope I didn't leave a rag in that hole before I put the new pump on", well that thought is screaming in my head right now. I know I didn't but the doubt is there.

As long as you didn't leave the iron on or the water running or the front door unlocked or left the garage door up, you should be OK.

Managed two out of four this week. Left the hose running all night after I cleaned out the swamp cooler, and neighbor came by to tell me my garage was open and he closed it.

New thermostat and lower hose while you were in there? Ditto on the belt.

The wp on my Cherokee gave 0 warning. Noticed a small pool of coolant and started overheating a 1/4 mile later.

^^ This. looking at that hose, you'd be doing it 1/2 assed (nothing personal) by not replacing the stat and hoses, AND flush the system afterward.

Thats why it will take two days getting the hoses this morning. That and getting proper hose clamps to replace those quick clamps.

Gotta love those "quick" projects.

Gotta love those "quick" projects.

There is always more..... I ended up having to buy a new battery as well, which also resulted in another trip out for new battery terminals.

I just pulled my water pump on my F350 too. Easy
job, but when its this hot and you have gout it sucks climbing up and down off the truck.

Fords are usually the easiest. They break down so much the owners get really familiar with them![Coffee]

I don't know anything about vehicles, aside from changing the oil and putting in coolant and taking it to the mechanic when there's a strange sound/smell/fluid puddle.

But I do know that my Grand Cherokee is a loyal friend that forgives lapses of judgment. I bet yours is, too. :)

It lives, but I ended up needing a new battery as well.

Don't you have to pull the cab on a ford to work on the engine?

For me I always loose the water pump, starter and alternator all within a few hundred miles of each other. I just usually plan on doing the trio when the first one goes along with belts and hoses.

I guess if I had a chevy it would last longer if I traded it in every year and just drove it to starbucks to argue with my liberal facebook friends. and used it once a year to haul the my little pony float at the pride parade.

Here is a trick I always seem to forget.

Put the new water pump off to the side, pull the old bolts out and put them in the new pump in the place they came out of the old pump. This will save you about 40 curse words and 25 mins.

2005 jeep wrangler Unlimited Rubicon is now throwing the following codes.

P0016 - Crankshaft / Camshaft timing misalignment / out of synchronization (in stored codes twice)

P0335 - Crankshaft position sensor circuit (in stored codes twice)

P0300 Multiple cylinder misfire

Likely culprit the crankshaft position sensor or could the cylinder one be from the year old crap gas that I added new gas to?
