260/6.5 Creedmoor AR-10

I am contemplating/researching building a AR-10 in 260 or 6.5 Creedmoor. Does anyone have any experience with these calibers in a gas gun platform? I would appreciate any information.

I have an OBR in 260. Very fun rifle. Incredibly accurate. However the short mags dont work well with bullets heavier than 123gn or so. The 139/142s eat up too much powder space.

I gotcha, in my research I had seen the heavier bullets do eat up a lot of space so its good to hear from someone who actually knows. Have you ever hunted big game with it? I know the bullets are a little light but a perfectly placed shot is more important anyways. If I build one it will mainly be a target rifle however I think it would be pretty fun to give a liberal or two a heart attack by hunting with a black rifle, with the appropriate mags of course.

I have a Dpms in 6.5 Creedmoor and I love it. I was going to use it as a coyote gun but it has turned into a long range prairie dog shooter. The 6.5 and the .260 are basically identical in terms of ballistics, but the 6.5 was designed for a short action so you can load the heavy bullets and seat them out farther and still fit in the mag. Any round in the 6.5 dia. is going to be accurate, there is just something awesome with that size bullet. My 6.5 shoots insane, I have handed that rifle to guys that have never shot it and they have taken prairie dogs out past 300 yards on the first or second shot. Here is a pic of mine.

I have an LMT MWS in .260. It's a fun rifle. I use the 120gr AMAX because when I load them to mag length, the ogive is right length from the lands for more than acceptable accuracy.

It seems that you can't really go wrong with either caliber. It it true that the 6.5 has better availability when it comes to factory rounds? I would reload eventually but not in the near future.

I've played with both the 6.5CM and the .260Rem in the AR-10 platform. IMHO, I would give the nod to the 6.5CM over the .260 in the gas gun. Even slow, I could never get the .260Rem to print the groups I wanted, but it was easy with the 6.5CM, the factory Hornady 6.5CM ammo is actually amazingly accurate as well. Some of that has to do with the points already brought up about bullet weight. I have a bolt gun in .260 that I have shot Pronghorn, deer, and coyotes with. My 2013 Pronghorn was a 680 yard shot, with the suppressor. Watching the reaction of the doe to the death of the buck was very interesting.
