I would need to read a lot more of the tech data... How do they ensure secure calls and data? Is everything set up like a FTP? What sort of encryption? What type of encoding?

I'm assuming that you'd have to be communicating with another black phone owner in order for the encryption to actually work. I don't know much about this stuff but it wouldn't make sense that I can send a text email or phone call to someone on Verizon's network and have it encrypted unless they have the ability to decrypt it on their end.

How long before having a "black phone" becomes criminal? It makes perfect sense for criminals to use them, but there are a lot of good people interested in not beng spied on too.

I dunno on that one. Good question. The interview with the company owner was interesting. He said the Blackphone was first introduced in Europe and pretty popular there as there is a greater understanding of privacy. I didn't know that. I think he said Switzerland (?) has laws specifically preventing cell tracking. He said it was only introduced here recently as the concern for NSA tracking has brought the privacy issue mainstream. Currently, the biggest purchasers are very senior corporate execs, politicians and govt officials. Last two don't surprise me very much. I wonder how our freedom of information laws deal with Blackphone use by govt officials.

Well then, just what are you getting with the Blackphone? If it is no better than any other Android based system.....why spend the coin?

I dunno... $620 for the phone plus service seems high to me. I think you're better off buying a prepaid phone, using up the minutes, then tossing it and buying another.
