Looks like our fridge is giving up the ghost.
Anybody have any suggestions on good ones, bad ones, place with decent prices?

We looked at pretty much all the places that sell appliances when we replaced our fridge about 6 months ago and none could beat Home Depot for total price...price of the fridge, free delivery to Bailey, free installation and set up, free haul away of our old one. Lowes probably would've been just as good on price but had no where near the selection.

Sears wasn't even close in price or service. The price you see is what you pay and the delivery fee is $100...period. That's what we were told at the SW Plaza store.

That was our experience.

We recently went with an LG 31 cubic ft. french door thru Home Depot. When LG does a sale, everyone that sells their product gets the reduced pricing. HD had the best overall pricing and we had the ability to put it on our HD card at a discount at no interest.

Sent from my electronic leash.

Did you GO to the Sears scratch and Dent? Totally different than the actual Sears stores. 50% off is the norm: http://www.searsoutlet.com/d/store.jsp?DENVER&store=4071&md=ct_md&cid=695 However, the best deals never get listed on the site so you have to go there in person. Went with a friend a year ago and they got a 22cf refer just like they wanted for $400, it was $1100 at HD. Was missing a leveling foot and had a small bend in the bracket. We bought a foot for $3 and straightened the bracket with a crescent wrench.

We did. At the time they had a very small selection and nothing we wanted.

Coworker of mine got a nice double door fridge with a bottom freezer from there about 40% off because it didn't have handles on it. When we looked inside the handles and all hardware were sitting on a shelf. The problem with it was the top mounting area for the handles on both doors had only been drilled with two of the three necessary holes for the screws. I guess no one there had a drill.

I am very happy with the Samsung we got from Lowes, French doors with bottom freezer and two ice makers.

Mine died a couple years ago, Lowes had the best price for me, plus free delivery, free removal of old fridge and free install of new fridge.

Ex-GF works in appliances and said Appliance Factory Outlet was the way to go and they would haggle some over price. They also have warehouse sales every once and a while with retunred items.

DO NOT go to Appliance Factory Outlet.

This is the short version (trust me): We moved into our new house and didn't have a full size working fridge for almost 2 months. The first one they gave us simply did not refridgerate. After 3 weeks, they finally delivered a new one, scratched our brand new wood floors, and the freezer didn't work. Another 2 weeks and several repair visits later, the service tech made the freezer kind of work, but it wouldn't get below about 25 degrees F. Another several weeks, several hours on the phone and several repair visits later, we got fridge #3. At this point, we were demanding a refund, but they wouldn't give it to us. Fridge and freezer worked, but the ice maker did not. Several weeks later, several service visits, and several control boards later, I pulled the face off the ice maker to see if I could fix it. It has obviously been worked on before, with some very low quality workmanship... And the culprit was a set of wires that were electrical-taped together (no wire nut) that had come loose. Their freaking service techs couldn't figure that out. We also had a newborn at the time and needed a real fridge. I was borrowing fridge space from my neighbors for 2 months. My MIL finally got involved and threatened to burn the place to the ground if they didn't fix it, but by that time, I had fixed the ice maker and I honestly didn't ever want to talk to anyone associated with the company again.

Lesson learned: Don't put up with that bullshit ever again. Buy from a reputable store like Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

FWIW, the fridge was an LG french door (freezer on bottom) fridge. I wouldn't ever buy another LG.

You can get good products from Appliance Factory Outlet but you have to be very leery and inspect everything very close. I bought a washer and dryer from them for a great price, the catch was the dryer was open box. They tried to give me one with a massive dent and scratch on the top, I said no way. It took another week to get one but I got one that was almost perfect. They have worked flawlessly so far.

Keep the ideas coming, our current fridge came from Appliance FO and we didn't have any issue with it but if I am going to drop the coin I think we will look hard at other sources.

We've got a Sears outlet near us, on Yosemite. They had a huge amount of inventory that wasn't listed on their flyer, and what we wanted was a very specific style of fridge that wasn't made in Korea or had known issues. We found it, too, for less than half of what we would have had to pay through Home Depot. There was a scratch on the back right panel that's hidden from view. I'm very pleased- and how we managed for so long without a freezer-on-the-bottom type of fridge I have no idea.

One thing to keep in mind: the moving guys are paid a pathetic amount. They're stuck with an impossible schedule. Tip them well. If you need them to move an appliance (we were replacing an older fridge and needed the older one to go into the basement) DO NOT say anything to the Sears people calling to confirm the appointment. Instead, speak with the movers when they arrive. If their schedule isn't too tight, they will for some extra $.

We bought our new appliances at Home Depot. Salesperson looked up all their deals and applied them to our purchases without us prompting him.

Very happy with how it went, and their install folks showed up on-time and did just fine. We even sent back our first fridge because we changed our mind after it was sitting in our kitchen, about to be pushed back into place, and they didn't charge us for the failed+2nd delivery of a different model.

I have a Samsung and love it. Got it at Best Buy on a great sale. Free delivery. French door, bottom freezer. VERY quiet. It's lasted much longer than the Whirlpool Gold I had prior.

Some French door fridges the doors don't close easily. They shut ALMOST all the way but don't make that last little bit without you actually paying attention. The Samsung fridge I have all I have to do is get the door to swing in the general direction of shut and they do the rest with ease.

Well, sure. But if it causes just one happy ending wouldn't it be worth it?

Bert - knowing the high roller you are check these guys out - http://www.mountainhighappliance.com/en/catalog/688-Kitchen/41-Refrigerators

Really they do have an excellent selection and are in your neck of the woods - Louisville.

On a serious note they do have a great selection and will probably have what you want or more importantly what your wife wants.

Down here in the Springs I've been thrilled with purchases made at Shouse. I know they are part of a larger company now, and one I believe is also available in the Denver metro area.

My current refrigerator is a Samsung I purchased in an emergency from Lowe's. The old one died and I didn't want to shop much, just pick one, drag it home and plug it in. It has served me very well. The ice maker did quit one day shy of warranty expiration, and Samsung replaced it without argument. To the point of replacing the entire freezer door because the tech damaged the stainless door and display. Could I have saved a couple of $ searching? Of course, but time is money as well. Lowe's is less than 5 minutes from the house and they loaded it in my truck for me. At that time, they even came and got the old one free later on...

we've had good luck with the Sears Outlet. Scratch/Dent for %50 off or more.

Maytag/Whirlpool makes most of the domestic brand names, fyi.

I like the bottom freezer type, not keen on the double doors though, most of the time you have to still open both doors to get stuff out, especially the drawers for meet/veggies etc.

My 2 cents.

I'm back for the peepee whacking

I also realized I actually meant Mile High, not AFO - Mile High has warehouse sales every 1/4 or so and you can get good deals on their stuff. Call and ask when it is.

Back to the peepee whacking.

We may have dodged a bullet temporarily. I pulled the ducting in the back of the freezer and the coils were a solid block of ice.
Unplugged it and gave it a thorough defrost and put it back together.
38 degrees on the fridge side this morning.
It seems there is a circuit board for the automatic defrost that craps the bed regularly on this particular model.
Replacement cost is up there and most people just manually defrost it anyway.
We shall see, hopefully we have enough time to save up for a new one.
Thanks for the suggestions, we shall go shopping after the first of the year
