3-10 power is great for coyotes and p dogs, especially on a .204. It's not like your shooting 500 and 600 yards. I have a leupold with the adjustable objective and unless I'm shooting a fixed distance I don't care for it. It is a pain to have to reach up to the bell of the scope and adjust every time you move 100 yards In or out. The ad says $400 obo so if you can get him down on the price I say go for it. The nice thing with Leupold is if the glass is scratched or seals cracked you can send it in and they will repair it for you( usually at no charge)

Personally I like at least 24x for prairie dogs. They get small fast.

I might want a tad more too. If you are going to say 300 yards max, it might be okay.

For the same money, you can get a new optic with some better features such as better glass, adjustable turrets, BDC and several other options.

I know everyone says to pay as much as you can for a scope. I have killed hundreds of prairie dogs with my Mueller scopes, many well over 300 yards. I put a Hawke scope ($250) on my new 17 Hornet and so far it is great.

You "can" pay over $10K. I say that is a waste of money. But when the budget is $400, get the most bang for your $...that is all I ever say. I have a few sub $100 optics and don't plan on replacing them because they work fine.

The Vortex PST is a great scope for the purpose, but I'd go to the 6-24 personally. Their warranty is one of the best in the business and turn around time if you do have a problem is days not weeks. I have 2 viper PST's, a 4-16 and a 2.5-10 and a Razor HD 5-20 on my match rifle, and all have been rock solid. Yes there's better glass out there, but I haven't found anything better for the money that offers the same feature set. (illumination, target turrets, zero stop, and great glass for the money), The SWFA Super Snipers are damn good as well.

Unless you plan on doing a lot of less than full power shooting, FFP isn't needed and you can save $200 by going to the second focal plane version. IMO target turrets are an absolute must if you want to do much past 300 yds. Yeah you can fudge it, but it's just so much more gratifying to be able to hammer a small target at long range with the first try, I've come to the point that I will not buy another scope that's more than about 4X without them, even for a strictly hunting rifle.

I've been planning on replacing my Weaver Grand Slam 6-20 on my 204 with a Viper PST 6-24 for a while but it's been low priority.
