Hello New Friends!

Introducing myself:

Benaiah (ben-eye-uh)

2nd Amendment-loving, conservative(mostly) Actor: Endangered species, very rare to catch a glimpse of one of us in the wild...

I just moved to Boulder from Denver in March. I don't hate the city. But most of the people in it drive me crazy. Luckily working with liberal actors almost every day has definitely prepared me to survive in hostile territory... Plus there is a really great gun store here. Only ONE of course...

I have taken 2 training classes; a basic pistol workshop thru an ex-cop NRA Instructor, not a bad class; and had a lot of fun taking Blucore Carbine 1, great instructors! But I am looking for more groups that train carbine OUTDOORS, wondering if I could get some suggestions/recommendations.

I have the great fortune to be good friends with a Marine who spent time in combat in Iraq, and he has trained/instructed me quite a bit, but unfortunately he has left the state to become a policeman elsewhere.

I practice as often as I can, but I am interested in finding a group to meet and train with more regularly

Great to find you all! Watch some Shakespeare, its good for you!

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody!

I took three actor friends shooting this summer and they had a blast range. We discussed the 2nd Amendment and they admitted they had never had anyone explain it that way before...so that was fun...

And how did you explain it?

Primarily that "the People" are different from "a well-regulated Militia", which is made up of "the People". Much like we all have freedom of speech, even though we are not all "the Press"...

Basically they had never had anyone tell them that there are such things as rights that exist without the government "granting" them. Being in the arts they sort of assume that about free speech, but not about firearms. And I had to remind them that any rights that can be "granted" by a government can be denied by that same government, that probably didn't get covered when they were in civics in 6th grade, not in public school anyway... That I felt it was every man's responsibility to be armed and if a man chooses not to arm himself he can't very well complain if he gets his goodies taken away by somebody stronger or with more friends

We discussed the fact that sometimes bad people do bad things with guns, and what kind of laws they thought might make a difference. Since some of them work in the costume department I asked if they felt bad about using sewing machines every day, they asked why, and I said that every yellow star worn by Jews during the Holocaust was sewn on a sewing machine, but we don't limit the use of yellow fabric or thread because someone might do something evil with them. Blame the evil thought, not the machine.

Stuff like that.

Most young liberals only hate guns and conservatives because John Stewart tells them to...and they've never shot anything but granddad's .22, so what else are they supposed to think?

I try to be gentle with them, because they are my friends...they just know Republicans are mean, and that's about it...
