"I'm actually saying the thing that needs to be said because the politically correct climate is bulls--t," Simmons said. "You don't want to upset anybody by saying, 'Learn to speak goddamn English.' So, as an immigrant, I'm telling you: Learn to speak goddamn English. It is the key that will unlock the keys to the kingdom. If you make the effort, then all the possibilities of this culture will open up for you and give you all the rewards that I've gotten.
"How about this: If Siri can't understand you, you're in trouble," Simmons said. [ROFL1]
OUCH.
Agree or not. If i was to relocate to India. Having a grasp of the language, is beneficial to one living there. I understand 1-2 years before you have a clue, but 5-10, come on.
I prefer Jean Simmons. She was much easier to look at [Flower]

Oh bullshit Chuck, your all about Richard Simmons.........
Gene is bang on target.
If you immigrated here, you are now an American. That means you learn the language and customs of the nation.
I am not obligated to learn the language of wherever you came from.
Perfect example- the other morning I stop at 7/11 for a Cliff bar and a Gatorade.
The line to the cashier is about 8 deep, the majority are brown skinned non English speaking individuals.
I watch no less than 4 times as the cashier tells the customer the total, only to have the customer give the cashier a dumbfounded look and hold out bills in one hand and change in the other.
The cashier then reaches out and pulls the correct bills and change out of their hand and completes the transaction.
Pure bullshit.
Learn the language, learn to count and yes Manuel, you too can conduct business the American way.
Rant off

The cashier should just take all the money, I bet they'd learn real quick.

Learn it or not, I don't care, but bending over backwards (i.e. spending time, money, and resources) to have interpreters and printing things in 8 different languages to appease non-English speakers I do not support.

Oprima numero dos!
I *Hate* it when people suggest to me "Oh you should take Spanish classes, it's going to be so useful!" - It better not. No more useful than taking French, German, Italian, hell, even Chinese.
People who refuse to learn English are annoying, but it does not, and should not, have the least bit of effect on the usefulness of being bi-langual. To suggest otherwise is just to be stubborn.

Kazoo, I have that exact photo next to my 70's Farrah Fawcett poster. So dreamy [Love1]
Now as to being bi-langual, I worked with a guy named Garcia from rural Virginia and he spoke both Country and Western and he definitely considered himself fluent. Too bad he couldn't speak Spanish or English. It was a good thing I was conversational in the rural dialect of Virginia (not spoken in Northern Virginia) and Dominican Spanglish from my time in New York City. Garcia denied being bi or homo anything. He was all man and liked farm animals.
Hmmm, political commentary from a man whose whole claim to fame is the length of his tongue.

Why not? Penn, Robbins, Sarandon, you name it are always asked their opinion about something political. Hell they asked some 17 yr old singer how she felt about 3rd world poverty. Bitch is lip syncing, how that hell can she answer when she cannot sing?
Gene Simmons(Chiam Weitz) has built an enormous business empire by being smart. He financed it through his career as a performer, which included capitalizing on his talents, including a modicum of musical talent and being able to lick his own eyebrows. He has some political views that I don't necessarily agree with, but he's a strong supported of our troops, and an astute business man. If I were an immigrant, it would be hard to find a better example to follow(including becoming fluent in English!).

Well said! I was never a big fan of the band, nor did I watch his tv show. However Gene Simmons is a very smart man, your points state why. For a big kick find his interview with Terry Gross on "Fresh Air", he didn't put up with her bs and played her like his bass lol.

I caught occasional tv shows and found Gene Simmons' straight forwardness fun. I think his honesty with himself is a big reason for his success. Of course, honesty is the antithesis of political correctness and bs. Here is a link to the above mentioned "Fresh Air" interview.

Indeed... My funny bone has been sprained the last couple of days...
Terry Gross was needing some Schweddy Balls during that interview.
