Watching fox31 news. They did a piece on college tuition / rising cost, tying in with Mizz Nancy's visit.
Anyway the girl is talking about How Much it's going to cost for college, that oh my heaven, She'd have to eat ramen in order to make it.

Then mom chimes in about the gap between the have and have not's. Keeping in mind as she's talking the view out the back window, looks like the next house is 2-3 lots over. Nothing shabby, one of the have's by every thing shown in the piece.

RAMEN, OMFG! ! !. What have mom & dad prepared this sweet angel for, besides her suffering for an education?
Maybe she'll borrow money from aunt muffy for that sorority, mom and grandmom were members of. Before they became burdened behind the kitchen counter, bearing their husbands seed to fruition.

The first is that we allowed a high school education to become so devalued that employers now have to demand a college degree instead, even if the job really requires no particular college level education. Its the only way to ensure that they actually have a high school education.

The second was the idea that college students are entitled to a middle class lifestyle.

I guess I don't get it anymore. I worked full time and put myself through trade school with no help beyond $3000 in scholarships that I EARNED, and a couple student loans that got paid off inside of 3 years after graduating. Got through trade school, worked a few years in my trade, then found an employer that would pay for my undergrad degree. So I was back to working full time and going to school full time, only this time my employer paid the bill if I got B's or better. I'm still with that employer with 13 years of service. I remember at one point working full time days, going to school at night (20 credits in a semester) and bouncing at a bar on the weekends for fun money. Didn't sleep much, and didn't have a lot of fun that year, but I got a LOT of shit done and the rest of my life has been better because of it.

Our society continues to swirl around the drain, those that are willing, and know how to work for a better future are few and far between it seems.

During the Occupy Bullshit I had my daughter yelling "Screw you hippies" at the TV. She was about 5 at the time. Is that the wrong thing to teach? She loves Ramen.

After teaching for 4 years at a CTE high school I am a huge fan of CTE education as well as AP classes. Get as much college education as you can for free while in high school. For those not in the know, most CTE education programs at the high school level have concurrent enrollment with a local community college. This means your student is enrolled at the college and is getting college credit in the program they are in. I offered 15 college credits every year in Fire Science, EMS, and a Emergency Management. In fact I had a student who graduated in May and in June went to RedRocks and got is AAS in Emergnecy Management. He had done AP classes and my classes and had a degree when he graduated high school, he paid about $500 for that degree.

As sniper said the BS is rather deep at schools. Having worked and taught in schools I fell lucky to have a leg up on wading through that BS. I know what to say to get stuff done and ask the right questions, ones most teacher are not ready for. It's fun to catch them off guard.

The difference between right and wrong, don't tell lies, manners count and be true to yourself. I try to impart a sense of wonder at the world and that there is more than what is in front of your nose if you open your heart to it. Don't fear pain and loss, it is a part of life and you can't hide from it so just keep moving forward.

This! Except I'd add a third: we've made it so everyone is convinced college (and the massive debt that comes with it) is the only way to succeed in life, but completely forget about the much needed trade industry. No joke, oil companies are offering 6 figures for welders right now.

I have two graduate degrees but still like to eat Ramen. :)
If I had kids, though, I'd really be pushing USNA from a young age.
