I'll be there. Justin should be there. Haven't asked Hoser, but I'm assuming he'll be there since he's the defending champion and all.

I would like to go but unfortunately I can't make it. That is the same weekend as the Lake George 3-gun/multi-gun so I will be busy with that. Good luck and hope to see you all at the Lake George July match !

So I'm coming (Ken K.) and hopefully will be dragging Jason Huss and Henning along (if there was still room). The stages look very challenging, especially for beginners like me. I've also heard rumors (I think I read it on BE's forum) about 100 yard slug shots, off-hand.

Hoser: are the Baschieri and Pelagri slugs the ones that you've been having good success with? I just received a couple of cases and am anxious to try them out. WinLites group well for me but now I can't get them. Fiocchi shoot like crap out of my Benelli. If anyone wants a bunch of Fiocchi slugs, I can bring them to the match.

See you all at the match.

Those are the ones.

B&P slugs are awsome. Cheryl Current turned me on to them.

Shoot -- The B&P slugs group like a mother but the low recoil (1200fps) don't cycle my benelli. I went directly to B&PUSA due to the price and they didn't have any of their full power on the website.
So, added to a case of Fiocchi I now have (just under) 3 cases of B&P that I'll be selling at the Johnson 3-gun. Man, I wish those puppies were working. Back to shoulder-splitting Federals.
100-yard slug shots?

Hoser
06-19-2009, 19:01
I have some Remington and Federals you can try. When you headed this way?

I am with you. 100 yards with slugs? Silly. Proves nothing and smacks down the guy that doesent shoot much.

Hey Hoser,
I'm trying to take Thursday and Friday off -- at least that's the plan.
After a 'quick run' up to Barr Camp on Thursday, I was going to cruise down to Pueblo. Any chance you'll be at the range in the late afternoon on Thurs?
Otherwise, I was planning on being a range rat on Friday, helping out, verifying range (if possible), etc. so that's a possibility.
My Benelli seems to chew through light birdshot loads OK but it's sensitive about light slug loads. Any chance you'll have your AIAW along? I just want to spooze on it (and see what S&B glass looks like)...
See you this week -- definitely looking forward to it.

Are you sure the gun is sensitive, OR maybe is it the shooter???-When shooting slugs

As far as the AIAW System-This is THE BEST long gun out there for ANYTHING in my opinion, and I wouldn't want to recommend looking through S&B glass, for their marketing system locked around some sort of mysterious thing that makes you get one as soon as you look through it.

I'll admit I'm sensitive when it comes to shooting slugs. As I was grouping the full power Fed Tac slugs the other day (prone, using some support), I was whining the entire time. I made Henning shoot two just to share the pain. That's why I shoot pussy, open guns...

AIAW topped with S&Bs: yea, I'm afraid of the money-sucking reaction I'll probably have.

Has anyone seen or created a rough round-count?

Rifle rounds
Pistol rounds
Shotgun -- birdshot / slugs

For other matches I've just taken the stated round-count and brought double.

I don't remember what I brought or what I used last year (or the year before).

CareyH
06-25-2009, 17:30
93 rifle
82 pistol
75 birdshot
14 slugs

this is the minimum. and some stages you can use either or so the round count can be higher or lower.

I am bringing 200 of everything(except slugs)

I think my daughter and I will try to make it out there Sunday morning to watch some of the shooting. She's just starting USPSA and Steel pistol matches, so seeing what else is out there might be good for her. I also want to try to meet some of the out-of-towner's I talk to on BE every once in a while. Anyone know if Benny Hill et al are coming up to shoot the match?

Maybe if we saw you at more local matches you could fix that:)

And you won a gun for the second year in a row, that's not a bad thing:)

Those video's are cool. Keeping track of all that needs to be done during the stage looks like a real challenge. It makes regular USPSA style stages look like nothing as far as programing the stage.

Yeah many of the stages are really mind puzzles, but its a lot of fun.

You should come shoot a 3gun match Charlie, I'll lend you a rifle and shotgun to use just pay me something for ammo.

rtr> Thanks for the offer!!! I will think about that. I have a hard enough time shooting just a pistol, much less adding a rifle and shotgun to the mix. I might come out and spectate the next 3gun match just to see how it goes down.

You should come to the lake gorge match at the end of july. Its perfect for someone who has never done 3 gun before. the longest shot you will take is 70 yards. And its less of a mind screw than most of the bigger match stages. I will extend the same offer chris did, I have extra rifles and shotguns you can use.

I'll say again, it was a lot of fun. After seeing the stages posted online and walking through some of them on Friday night I was a little apprehensive.

I was on squad 6, and we started on stage 6 (Step Right Up!). I probably hadn't shot a 3Gun stage since Johnson 3Gun last year. I was slow, but shot it clean. 43.6398 match points.

Then we were off to stage 4 (Snipers, too). Another clean stage, but too darned slow. Still adjusting to my new TA11H ACOG. 46.9975 match points.

I tried to go a little faster on stage 5 (All kinds of targets). Wound up with 2 failures to neutralize, but still 57.4813 match points.

After lunch we were on stage 9 (Not Again!). I took waaaay too many shots so I spent too much time reloading. 2 failures to neutralize and 37.8823 match points.

Stage 7 (I'm so confused) killed me. My F'ing Benelli M2 Field seems to malfunction about once every-other stage. Cost me a bunch of time. My 7 1/2 birdshot wouldn't knock over the steel and I couldn't seem to hit steel with my handgun. Somehow I wound up with 2 targets not engaged and a no-shoot. Hard to imagine not engaging everything for all the shooting I was doing. 26.3069 match points.

That sets me right up for Stage 8 (It's my fault). Surprisingly straight-forward stage that caused me all kinds of issues. 4 no-shoots (all on the same target, to the tune of 20s) and a target not engaged (disappeared while I was reloading). 21.0309 match points.

Sunday we started on stage 3 (All three???). I spent way too much time figuring out where my slugs were going at ~70yds. So much so that I timed out. 1 unhit target and 2 targets not engaged. 21.0189 match points.

Stage 1 was another instance of "took too long". The ~100yd steel should have been EASY, but somehow wasn't. I shot a stick out from under a clay without breaking the clay. 1 failure to neutralize and an unhit target. 35.2033 match points.

I liked stage 2 (Who's the real threat?). I had one failure to neutralize on a distant pistol target. Otherwise pretty good. My Benelli barfed again but it didn't cost me any time. 56.0246 match points. I think it should have actually been more points. Raw time was 104.73, plus 5 = 109.73, but it was inexplicably entered into the spreadsheet as 126.73.

What the heck did you do to my Benelli? When was the last time you shot it?

If 7.5 shot wont knock over steel, it aint the gun or ammo...

Bring it to a Wednesday afternoon steel match and shoot it there.

Or maybe take it to a Lake George or Greeley match...

I had the same problem on that stage. there was three large ground plates that I hit dead on with more than one round of number 7.5 shot and they wouldnt fall. The RO on that stage was kinda a D-bag and didnt really have much to say about it. upon looking at the steel when resetting the stage the 3 large plates where leaning pretty far forward past 45 degrees I would say. I dont know how far forward they need to be but I am guess less than that.

rtr
06-29-2009, 22:30
The steel on stage 7 was relatively small and far away and leaning far forward. I reset the steel on that stage a bunch and I didn't give it any extra forward lean it just had to be set that way. With a IC choke and 7.5 shot it just wasn't going to go down, you either had to choke down or shoot it with your pistol.

Here's a link to some more videos from Johnson 3 Gun (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7376DB1296F44E4C)

The videos have been color-corrected, and I added music and a bit of motion design for the stage numbers.
Also, Stage 7 can go commit acts that are wholly unnatural to itself. That one sucked and was a significant part of my tankage.

I biffed this match badly. Just getting the suck out of the way before RM3G.

Also, for those who are interested, here's a link to the playlist of videos from Superstition Mountain. (http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=B783439F4AD35C75)
