View Full Version : Unissued m39 shooting quite high
I have a 1970 unissued m39 I took shooting for the first time today. It was very consistent but was shooting pretty dang high, at 50 yards I would aim at the bottom of that target and hit the bullseye and at 100 I had to aim way down. I know they zero these things at around 150 meters but that shouldn't account for such a difference. Anyone have an idea what I can do to rectify this? Buy a shim set? I am going to scope it some day but want to have it reasonably zeroed with irons. Thanks.

aiming pumpkin on the post?
afterthought. I know on one of my mosins, the front sight was shaved at an angle/ and seems to hit in the 50-100 yard range when you put the front sight down inside the notch and the target in the V vs on top..... I shot .22's sighted like this when I was younger (the blade at teh bottom of the notch with the target inside the V) so it seems sorta normal to me but some people like the target to float over the rear notch I guess. Still not sure why the front sight was filed / though, and now it has a mojo peep on the rear :)
What ammo were you using?
ppu 182 gr and hundarian 182 grain. both produced consistent results, just high and right. i believe the number on my sight is 79, or 7.9 mm blade, so i could get up to a 9.1 mm blade but i actually don't think that will be enough.
Have you looked at the rear sight ladder for any issues? I had one that was tweaked and was doing about the same thing.
Might try a lighter bullet and see what that does.
