View Full Version : Anyone Know of an NFA Dealer in the Fort Collins Area to do a Transfer Through?
...that isn't named Jensen Arms in Loveland, Bear Arms in Windsor or Liberty Arms on Harmony in Fort Collins?
I need to order another suppressor and the last two I've done I used NFA dealers in the Denver area to handle the transfer and I'd rather not make that drive again. It's an item from SilencerShop and neither Jensen Arms or Patriot Arms will take transfers from them because they 'Are doing shady shit' when the fact of the matter is they refuse to match their pricing. I've tried numerous times to work with those two entities and refuse to do so every again. Their stories are almost identical which leads me to believe the owners had coffee and came to their conclusion but if you press them for facts they have none. The bottom line is I refuse to use an entity that resorts to bashing other entities that are supporting our cause. Period.
So, do you know of anyone that will do an NFA transfer in the Fort Collins/Loveland area? Hoping to send an order over post haste so the sooner the better. If you've personally used them and have had a good experience this is a bonus but not a requirement.
Thanks!
I talked to Ryan Roth and he said he doesn't care if you find it online cheaper he'll still do the transfer for $50.00

Thanks for the suggestion but Fort Morgan is further than the NFA dealers I've already used in Denver. Looking for something closer to home. Ideally Loveland but I'm in Fort Collins too.
Have you tried Bear Arms in Windsor?
I figured you were trying to avoid the congestion of the Denver area.
Have you tried Bear Arms in Windsor?
Oh, that's the other one that is on the no no list for me. I will update the OP now. Please keep the suggestions coming though. I'd like to find a local NFA that I can send my stuff to.

Have you checked with liberty arms? Maybe give Pat at pm guns a call last time I was in there they were working on stuff to get there license so they could sell cans.
Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply is an NFA dealer.

Crap, Liberty Arms is the one I meant. Editing the OP. As for PM guns, the last time I needed to transfer a suppressor the nice lady on the phone said not only could they not do it but one of the guys there told her that anyone owning a suppressor opened themselves to a warrantless search of their home at any time just because they owned one. I tried explaining this wasn't the case so they'd stop misinforming customers but they wouldn't hear it.

Are they NFA? Last I was there (years ago) I didn't think they were. I'll check into this because while it's a bit of a drive for me from West of Loveland it's still closer than Denver.
Yep, talk to Bill, he's their NFA guy. There's two Bill's, I think the other one is the optics guru.

RMSS is a NFA dealer. I'd wouldn't even venture how much they charge for a transfer.
That tacoma of your not up to the tough roadways of NoCo ;) Which reminds me, we need to hit El Cielo by you for lunch, again.

I would be interested in this knowing a dealer as well. Libery had the Saker 7.62 for $975 and decided to raise the price to $1100+. I asked why the price increase and Heather told me "they sell themselves." I will still continue to do business there but not for my suppressor. Bear Arms does transfers for $100. Seth the manager has told me they will match silencershops price. I am sure there are some stipulations with it though.

IIRC that's the info i sent to Jer. The owners name is Jim, looks like him based on the items he's selling.

I'll check w/them but that's like 30-45min from where we are depending on time of day and traffic/construction. I'm almost better off heading to Thornton/Denver to the guys from here that I've used down there with good experiences.
The Tacoma does fine. I love that truck. It gets high teens and I also have my mom's Hyundai Accent now which I've decked out to be more enjoyable and that puppy gets over double what the Tacoma gets so if need be I can roll the tin can to get max MPGs. I just hate dropping everything I'm doing and/or trying to find time to make a 2hr round-trip to pick up my toys when they're finally paroled. My dream is a fella that lives a few miles from me that calls/emails me and I'm able to just pick it up the same day on my way to run other errands too. This whole investing hours of my life and $30+ worth of gas (double that if I have to go down twice) just to get an NFA item on top of all of the other hoops is for the birds man.

We do need to plan a lunch at El Cielo sometime soon. I've got stuff going on today & tomorrow but perhaps next week?
How is it we have ZERO small outfit NFA guys up here when there appears to be dozens in and around the Denver area? I would think we would at least have a couple to choose from. These shops around here that do NFA are all screwy. IMO you can't disconnect their philosophy on NFA items from the rest of their business acumen. IMO it's all one and the same and demonstrates a shadiness on their part when they're trying to make you think another vendor is shady when they're 100% on the up and up. Just not a good look for a business and I refuse to reward that sort of behavior.
It's a real shame I can't find a local retail shop that wants my tens of thousands of dollars. Whatever. Good thing ordering online is cheaper and easily done. They forced me to go that route with their horse shit and I really should thank them for saving me so much money buying online from the cheapest source rather than being loyal to a local business who obviously doesn't give two shits about me as a customer.

I got the PM and plan to call him shortly. Just getting all my email/internet ducks in a row right now. I plan to see if he has in stock the suppressor I want and if he qualifies for the 'Damn the Man' rebate AAC is currently doing.

Thanks for the input. I prefer hearing first-hand dealings with people rather than just chucking darts in the dark like I'm currently doing.

I would love to see a guy locally in Northern, CO for NFA transfers. Bear Arms said they will match any ones price in Colorado. They will also match vendors outside of CO (including SilncerShop) with their advertised price plus $100 for the transfer fee.
Next week would work, just let me know when.

Not sure if this is the same entity but it appears that way. FYI Jim it looks like he's in Mead near I25 instead of Berthoud. Not a huge difference but another 10min or so on top of the drive each way. I called & left a VM to get more details and see if he has the suppressor I want in stock but still on the look out for a Fort Collins/Loveland based NFA for transfer.

$100 for a transfer fee is absurd. I'll just keep doing it the way I'm doing it which is basically ordering from SilencerShop and paying a (reasonable) transfer fee. Some dealers think that because they have a can in stock it's worth 50% premium but the fact that dealer to dealer is now back down to about a month and a half it's just not worth the extra money stores want. I'm not the 'need to have it now' type but the fact that you have to wait 8mos plus on top of that kind of makes it a moot point anyway. In the most recent examples my savings was substantial and I had to wait less than 2mos extra. I don't ever have a need to have a suppressor in 8mos instead of 10mos to where this would make all the difference so that's just me. Not sure who out there is paying $1k for $500 suppressors to save a couple of extra months to keep them price gouging but whatever.
Any info on the dealer in Denver with a reasonable transfer fee?

Yessir. To Bear Arms (Thornton) & Triple 8 Enterprises (Westminster) are both great to work with and have reasonable NFA fees.
Also, just got a call back from Jim @ Rocky Mountain Tactical Supply and he said they don't carry AAC in stock because he's a Gemtech dealer but he said they can do the transfer for $50. They're also located near I25 & highway 66 in Mead.

$50 is pretty reasonable isn't it?
$50 is pretty reasonable isn't it?
I would say it's reasonable. It's not as unreasonable as $100 but it's not the cheapest I've found. Those two in the Denver area I listed are less expensive. I would love to find some place a little closer that charges the same or possibly even less. The key here is proximity as I'm trying to find an NFA FFL that I can use regularly moving forward. I'm tired of driving down to Denver every time I get an NFA item which is proving to be a lot more often than I had originally anticipated years ago. I used to have a couple of local shops do my transfers and sell my butt loads of other things at decent profit margins but I guess that wasn't enough for them. Fuck 'em.

$50 and a 30 minute drive or $25 and a hour drive. Not to hard to figure out. There's no door - door ffl in CO, let alone NoCo.

Still looking Jim. Still looking. I never said I expected door to door but if someone comes along and says: 'Oh, there's a guy on 29th & Boise in Loveland' then I'll be happy I posted this and waited for some suggestions. That's the whole point. Yes, the guy in Berthoud is closer. That's pretty obvious.

Sounds to me with all your wants/needs from an FFL/SOT you need to take your $10's of thousands of dollars and invest in starting your own business. Then you can have all the firearms, cans, & MG's shipped directly to your house and don't have to worry about driving anywhere. Then you can be the cool kid on the block and match S.S. price's and do transfers for less than $50 and be a hero for a day! [HiFive][AR15][MG]

The biggest issue FFL's have (NFA specifically) is inventory, Who can predict what today's, or tomorrow's flavor of suppressor will be. Inventory comes in, payment goes out. Do i carry 1 of everything covering my bases for the general public? Putting me thousands in debt, but inventory to make everyone happy. Or deal with the 90 day ffl 3-3 transfer?
Now about that 6-11 month wait. Where do i store paid for inventory, keeping away from FFL1 items, yet have enough space for FFL1 items to appease the walk in tire kicker. It's a never ending battle to make the consumer happy, while keeping your business in the black. AFTER PAYROLL, UTILITIES, RENT AND 30 DAYS NET TO VENDORS. Then , maybe then you have enough in the till to bring dinner home to the family, maybe.

Don't think I haven't thought about it. There is clearly a market for one 'round these parts and I would certainly like to have access to other items. Just don't know if I like the idea of ATF agents popping by for surprise visits and having strangers inside of my house. I'd want a business location and there goes the budget. I'll think about it some more but I'm not going to make much of an income at $40ish per transfer I don't think.
And that 'tens of thousands of dollars' statement was a cumulitive total over a decade or so. I'm not ballin' or anything and didn't want to come off as such. They all picked a good time to cross me because I'm too broke to buy anything these days anyway. Damned economy! lol

Raise it to $50 ;) ATF doesn't visit unannounced unless there's an issue. They usually let you know when an audit will be done.
Regarding visitors in your home. Wall off a section in your garage for business. Figure room for a desk, 2-3 seats and internet device. That's it. Any in home ffl i have dealt with, keeps you in a small area where you can view some product, make a payment, fill out paperwork.
A leader looks for solutions, not problems. Hell i'll rent you a section of the shop, cheap. Only condition, you need to clean that area [LOL]
If you really ask around, you may be surprised how many home based NFA ffl's there are in NoCo. Most have a secret handshake.

Raise it to $50?!? Oh shit! Why didn't I think of that? That extra tenski will w/o a doubt cover the lease and expenses of a retail location. lol
How much notice do they give you? I guess I just always took it to be a ring the door bell type notice but if you keeping your ship tight avoids all of the above then even better. I was under the assumption that they just drew license holders out of a hat and spot checked them so when you came up you came up.
Actually, I already have the space you think of in the garage and you KNOW it's secure as shizz. lulz I just need to buy another safe to throw out there to store shit in. Hmmmm..... Maybe I need to reconsider.

It's hard to make money at $40 or $50 a transfer once you factor in space taken in the safe at 6-8 months, the safe, insurance, home security, keeping all the forms for 20 years, your time invested in filling out forms, answering emails, and phone calls wanting to price match on an item that S.S. can buy at steeper discount. Only to lose the sale because you can't match S.S.'s price. But I do it cause I enjoy firearms, arming the American citizen, meeting new people and making new friends and hopefully making a profit.
I have my NFA transfer price set at $50 for cans because MY time is valuable to ME. I run and own two business and family time is my favorite time. So to me $50 is a value to me for MY time. But that's me and my business. To each their own.
Any business run out of a detached structure is not covered on your homeowners insurance FYI. An incidental business or of the main structure is covered though. Don't want to detail the thread, just something to ponder while you're putting together costs in your head.

They typically give you a week or so notice. You have a set time for your business hours that they can stop in. Mine are set from 5pm-7pm 7 days a week. But I have not had an inspection yet. But I know a guy who runs a large shop who went through an inspection that lasted 67 days! That's one more reason why B&M store are more expensive and have to charge a certain amount on each and every item.
Rocky Mountain Shooters Supply is an NFA dealer.
I finally talked to Billy (I guess that's the one that does the NFA stuff) and he said they don't stock the suppressor I want which isn't a surprise. He said they could get it but would also be more like retail price which also wasn't a surprise. What was a bit of a surprise was when he told me they charged $75 for NFA transfers & $50 for a basic non-NFA transfer. Wowzers. I knew there was a reason I didn't give them much business. I had been there many years ago and it had been long enough that I forgot why I didn't go in there anymore. Now I remember. lol
