Hello,

I'm moving out to Boulder mid September coming from Troy, NY. I am very happy to be getting out of NY and this mess Cuomo has gotten us into. I've been involved in the Brunswick Sportsman's Club for a long time and built their website for them (brunswicksportsmansclub.org). I'm also working on finishing up a site for Rennselaer County clubs to list their courses for pistol permit training (rcfirearmstraining.org). I'm hoping to get into a club out there as well. Though it looks like waiting lists can be pretty long. Any suggestions?

Also, it's my understanding that a pistol permit is not needed in CO to own a pistol? Just for carry concealed, right? I do have my CC here in NY but I assume I should be moved in there for a while before applying there.

Any my other concerns I may not be thinking of in moving there?

Thanks!

I believe you just need an address here to apply. I think worst case scenario is living here for 3 months, but I'm not sure.

Hello and welcome!!
Get outta dat dump as fast as you can!!!!You'll be glad you did.I never looked back once I left.
Even though Greg Ball was on our side they still needed a lot more in office that didn't cater to the comocrats.
I believe Irving is right, once you have an address, and also a Co drivers license you can apply right away.3 month wait sounds about right

Hurry up and move already!! Cuomo just might stop ya at the border!!!
Enjoy!![Beer]

Welcome!

I'll be driving right past you on Sunday on my move to Colorado from Worcester MA. Gunna have to blow through NY as fast as I can haha. Thankfully there's one good thing about FOPA laws...

Welcome to The Forum. Be aware that your NY CCW is not recognized here in CO., but you can keep a firearm in your vehicle for protection.
And research the CCW recipitories and firearms laws in the states you are traveling through to get here.

The last time I checked, the Boulder Gun Club, or Boulder Rifle Club, or whatever it is, had a long waiting list. But, the Pawnee Sportsmen's Club has no waiting list. It's a bit farther for you, but they have pistol, rifle, trap, skeet, 5 stand available for a decent price. We do monthly outlaw 3-gun, and once you pay your yearly dues, shoot for free as opposed to hourly fees on top of that.
There is also Trigger Time in Longmont, other clubs in the Denver area, and Loveland and Fort Collins.

Thanks @alpha2. That sounds like a good setup. I'll check it out.

Hey @Inferno... I'm curious if you stopped overnight. My brother is driving out with me and I'm thinking we may stop in Indiana for a night before hitting Illinois. Otherwise we may just drive straight through. How did your drive go?

Hey @Inferno... I'm curious if you stopped overnight. My brother is driving out with me and I'm thinking we may stop in Indiana for a night before hitting Illinois. Otherwise we may just drive straight through. How did your drive go?

We stopped in:
North East PA
Perry IL
York NE

I was with my dad, and we didn't drive complete full days. We could have done it faster if I was with someone younger.

I just kept everything locked up and hidden well.

Nice. Thanks. I'll be sure everything's locked up and hidden. Looks like you went a little lower. I figured I'd take I-90 to I-80. Any reason to take the I-70 route instead? Looks like it adds on a little time for me.

I-70 doesn't have any tolls. I've only driven as far East as Ohio. I took I-80 there, and I-70 back. I liked the drive on I-80 better, even though they were both just as flat. I got about 4 mpg LESS taking I-70 back. I think it was because of the wind. I didn't like I-70 through Kansas as much as I liked I-80 through Nebraskafor some reason. Again they are both similar. It might have just been that I was tired of all the driving. Denver to Brunswick, OH is a 24 hour drive by the way. You're a driving gladiator if you can go from New York to here in one sitting.

Thanks @Irving. It's probably more of a dream than what will really happen. Hah... The less stops I have the better though.

We ended up sleeping for a few hours at a rest stop each way.

Welcome aboard cmc.
One nice club to check out is CRC - Colorado Rifle Club. About a 2 hour drive from Boulder, but it's got every kind of shooting you can imagine (including a 1000yd. range and archery). And there's no wait to join!

Good luck w/ the move.
