Its obviously wrong for several reasons - first and foremost lack of data. But its still fun to look at:

As the original poster noted, the map is based on a City Data list (http://www.city-data.com/top2/co8.html) of the top 101 U.S. counties by firearm ownership, but City Data does not give the source for the list’s information.
Reddit users were quick to note the unexpected results on the map.
“Not a single one is in Texas, that’s a surprise,” one user wrote.
The first Texas county on City Data’s list is Harris County at No. 73, where apparently just over 30 percent of residents have a home firearm.
Another Reddit user offered a theory for why Louisiana was so well-represented.
“Louisiana has a 2nd Amendment sales tax holiday, a weekend in which firearms, ammunition and, I believe, hunting supplies are tax free,” the user wrote. “As a former resident of Louisiana and gun owner I’m not surprised by the numbers, though I figured northern Louisiana would be better armed than the southern half of the state.”

It would be interesting to see the bottom half of the list and a comparison to crime statistics in those jurisdictions.

Like anyone knows where/how many firearms there are in a particular county.

Why bother publishing something that has flawed data?

I wonder how bad those numbers really are. Considering a lot of us won't even tell the doctor if there are guns in the house, let alone a survey!

You don't answer surveys about gun? I state that I have guns on EVERY survey I take. At the very bottom, where it asks if there are any other comments I wish to add, I always write something along the lines of "I live in such and such county and privately own XXX number of firearms and keep XX in a safe and X in a drawer."

I'd add your address and what times the house is usually empty as well. Maybe even where the spare key is hidden and the dogs name and his favorite treat!

Right. What a waste of time.

No source for the data = no data. This could be, and likely is, a work of fiction.

Again, seems politically motivated... I distrust ANYthing that is published, regardless of the source... I assume it is unproven.

I wonder if someone with more free time than I could correlate the % in this study to something else published (umm, like registered Republicans?)
