I have a bunch of xtreme plated .38 bullets. (125gr FP with cannuler)
Well I want to load up some .357 mags but I have heard you don't want to push plated bullets too fast.
Would a book starting load of a slow burning powder (h110) be too much velocity for these?
Or save the plated bullets for plinker rounds in .38sp and load magnums with 158lswc? Load the plated bullets a little hot in a .357 case with fast powder (231)?
Anyone have experience with these, I'm not looking to go max charge/velocity.

IIRC, keep plated under 1200 fps. Don't have my books in front of me at the moment. I load my xtreme 125's to 900~ fps, plinker and suppressed rounds. I use lead data for the plated bullets and work up from there.
I keep the .357 158's to 1200 ~ fps. I use TG. For 357 i'm using 5.6 grs TG 158gr JHP. For 158gr lswc 4.6 They are low end of data, but perform well for my use (range paper & steel)

No trouble using those bullets in 357. I load them to plinking velocity with 231 powder. Xtreme bullets can be driven a bit faster than most plated, but no need to. For the record, 231 is NOT the powder for hot loads. It's too fast, save it for middle of the road plinking loads.

H110 is the wrong powder to try mid- range loads with... it's one and only niche is full power. It's good at full power magnums, mind you... just not flexible. You'll often see start loads 1 grain off of max loads.
Unique is a great powder for trying to find something mid- range in magnum cases.

Another vote for unique. It is one of my "go to" powders for plinking (low/midrange).

I've used HP-38/win231 for plated .357 mag and 38sp. Can't remember the load off the top of my head though.

I ended up loading them (500 rounds) with w231 to around +P specs. They shot pretty good through my N and K frames.
All the data I had showed they would be well above the 1200fps max xtreme recommends for their standard plated. I will find other projectiles for the .357 mag.
