Reminds me of the great advice when I was younger to "duck and cover" for protection in school.

I just defend my home-schooled children with dogs and guns... problem solved.
Ok, 2 are going to community college classes..

I could maybe see using those to protect from flying debris when hunkering down from a hurricane or tornado. They look stupid as hell when trying to protect loved ones from a shotgun or rifle.

I think school security issues could be fixed much cheaper and more effective then this. Seems pretty hoaky and dangerous.
I always though the "duck and cover", in the hallways, was to make it easier to find the bodies. Not what they told the kids, of course.
Those bright colors make the kids look like targets.
So if a kid punches another kid while wearing the blanket, do they get extra charges tacked on for committing a crime while wearing body armor? Also, schools better hurry up and waste my money on these blankets before they are made illegal.

My thought was "okay so they're covered, are we reverting back to the days of; I'm hiding under a blanket and no body can see me? What's stopping the shooter from walking up, flipping the blanket over, and shooting?"

if you read the article, it sounds like a lot of people were unhappy about them playing on the fears of parents, and were calling them shameless.

Hopefully a teacher or parent who was on scene and armed, ignoring a bad law.

Plus the bright red color makes the kids easier to spot herded in groups like cattle. Dumb.
