If you're looking for an introductory class in long-range shooting, don't overlook Whalen Precision Shooting's 3 day class. It was well run, extremely informative, and way fun.
For me, it was exactly what I was looking for. I'd gone about as far as I could self-taught, and this filled in the blanks, and then some. Pawnee's 1800 acres really did the job. From the long-range area, to the back country set-ups, we had numerous targets at various distances and sizes. Enough wind to make it a challenge, but not so much as to make it impossible. Weather on Friday was a bit cold, but Saturday and Sunday were perfect. I'm looking forward to the intermediate and advanced class!

I highly recommend them. And I know, they didn't have anything to do with the weather...still, it was a nice touch.

Great class and a wealth of information. Highly recommended to all levels based on the feed back from the instructors with each of your shots. I really can say I'm very comfortable with wind calling now for my shooting level. A big thanks and can't wait for the next class.

I have known Brian for many years. He is as solid as they come.

I've had my ass handed to me many times at many competitions by Brian. He's one of the nicest and most helpful dudes out there. I've never taken a class from him. But if I were looking to take a class, I'd look no farther.

Great dude for sure.

The old website, Whalen's precision shooting, is no more . The new site is Colorado Precision Rifle, don't remember the exact address off the top of my head. All the class info is on there.

Brian and Ron are good people.

The class was 3 days, 200+ rounds, various shooting positions and locations on Pawnee Sportsmen's Center 1800 acres, at ranges from 200yds to 600yds generally, but you could shoot at the 1000yd targets if you wanted to.
Cost was $595 with a discount of you'd taken a Victory Defense Consulting class in the 6 months or year, can't remember which.
Best money I've spent on training in quite some time. Answered all my questions and many I hadn't thought of yet.

Hi All,

The class was a huge success from our (instructor's) view as well. Each and every student gained substantial knowledge and new skills which were really apparent by the 3rd day. I was really pleased to see everyone interested in non-belly shooting, and eager to learn improvised shooting techniques with various equipment (e.g. sticks, rucksack, tri-pod, etc).

A few other notes:
You guys found the correct new website: www.cprifle.com
I posted some pics on our facebook page: www.facebook.com/cprifle

Hope to see you at some upcoming matches (not really, or we'll have to start practicing more), or at some future classes.

mrfish,
Do I get a discount on the class, since I posted the proper (current) website info?
hahaha (can't hurt to ask, right?)

Sure, we'll throw in a few extra rim fire rounds to practice with. :)

Day 1 was 1/2 classroom and 1/2 range (shooting). Brian and I surprised the class by bringing 22LR trainers (and ammo) for everyone to learn basic positional skills with. I think that really paid off for the students, based on the amount of steel that was being hit on day 3.

Heck, that's practilly like GOLD these days! LOL
Thanks for playing along, by the way.

This was a great class! They took my wife who knew very little about precision rifle shooting, and got it to where she was making winds call etc and hitting steel out to 600+! She loved it and couldn't say enough good about it. I have been crushed more than once by Brian and Ron at matches as well! They are very skilled shooters and instructors.

She made it look like she'd been shooting long-range all her life. She provided an amazing cheering section for the class, also!

Do you need your own long range rifle for this course? All I have iron sights ar-15. Do you rent one?

Iron sights aren't really appropriate for this class, but they may have some eqp. available for rent. I'll let Fish or someone else weigh in on this one. National Match irons for "NRA high-power" are the eqp. to bring for that course, but this is not like that.
We're all about small increments of MOA or Mils for this stuff. Although I am tempted to see what my M1 Garand could do on the 600yd and up targets!

GREAT CLASS. I took the Octorber 1-3 class and can't say enough good things about Brian and the class. If you are looking for a great precision rifle class in Colorado you should definitely look at Colorado Precision Rifle. I really liked that the class focused on the fundamentals and emphasized what to work on after the class to become a better shooter. We shot from multiple positions with and without support over various terrain and various distances including off the top of Brian's truck (sorry about the antenna). All and all a great class.
