[rant-off] Is this what are kids are growing up like? Is this a result of our "entitlement society?" This is just messed up. At least he didn't shoot them. [soap]

UPDATE: 10th-grader who admitted to murdering parents because they took away iPod sentencedUPDATE: Vincent Parker, the teen who admitted to murdering his parents, learned his fate on Thursday. He has been sentenced to nearly 25 years. He’ll be in juvenile detention until the age of 21. He will then be transferred to the penitentiary for 21 years and 10 months.
On one of the second degree murder charges, he was sentenced to 40 years. All of this time was suspended on the condition that he stay with the Juvenile Justice system until the age of 21.
On the other murder charge he was also sentenced to 40 years and all but 21 years and 10 months were suspended.
Police say while in court, Parker’s maternal uncle yelled and lunged at him after testimony during the sentencing hearing in Norfolk. The uncle was restrained by deputies and removed from the court room. He was not charged and was released.
Norfolk, Va. – A smart and talented Norview High School 10th-grader admitted in court today he killed his parents a week before Christmas because he was weary of their seemingly routine punishments, “like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff.”
Vincent Parker attacked his mother Carol as she emerged from an upstairs bathroom in their Bland Street home. He admitted to police he doused his mother with pepper spray, stabbed her in the eye, and then beat her in the face and head with a baseball bat and a crowbar “until she stopped breathing.” A medical examiner identified 25 separate smashes and stabs to Carol Parker’s neck, face and head.
When Vincent’s father Wayne Parker came home, Vincent struck him with a crowbar and stabbed him several times. Wayne Parker lived long enough to tell police what happened. After first trying to say his father was the aggressor, Vincent admitted he killed his parents. Vincent was Carol and Wayne’s only child.
“I just remember getting mad,” he told investigators. “It’s all from my dad. All this stuff like my dad taking away my iPod and stuff.”
Those details and statements were included in the prosecutor’s “stipulation of facts” presented to a judge Wednesday. Vincent, who is 16, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder in adult court. He’ll return to Norfolk Circuit Court in September to learn his sentence.
Why an honor-roll student with no criminal record snapped so violently over such benign punishments is a mystery to his family.
“He is a smart young man,” said his grandfather, Allen Taylor, father of Carol Taylor. “He is smart in school. I don’t know what happened.”
Defense attorney Emily Munn told the judge a psychiatric evaluation showed Vincent was both sane and intelligent. Even though Vincent is being sentenced as an adult, Munn told the judge she is going to ask the court to consider letting him serve at least part of his sentence in a juvenile facility. He could face decades in prison if he’s sentenced to the maximum for both murders. His grandfather is hoping for a much shorter punishment.
“I want him to get some type of counseling,” he said. “Help him to grow up and be an understanding man. Be sorry for what he did do. I told him to ask God to forgive him for what he did.”
When asked if he forgave his grandson, Taylor said: “Well, yes, I have. Because if I don’t forgive him, who will?
“We had to give it to God,” he said. “He is the only one who can help us now.”

I'll never buy the "just snapped" argument.

But yes, our society IS that messed up. It is not just entitlement, but also the devaluation of human life, selfishness, destruction of foundational truths, instant gratification, lack of self control, etc., etc., etc.

Lizzy Borden http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lizzie_Borden

Kids sometimes kill their parents. Parents more often kill their children. Neither crime is what I would call common and I do not believe this case is evidence for the downfall of society. I would argue that electing Barack Obama to be President...twice is a better indicator of how weak our society has become.

This just dawning on you now? It's been going on for a decade or so. I blame the MY TEACHER SAID YOU CAN'T HIT ME mentality . It successfully entrenched itself in to society. Look at government, the education system etc. It's so prevalent, it's hidden. IT'S NOT MY FAULT, I'M THE VICTIM.

I have to agree with cstone. I don't think society as a whole is that messed up but there will always be certain people in any given society who have some mental deficiencies.

As as far as the story goes, I think if the kid's parents had beaten him a little more instead of just taking away his electronic devices maybe this all could have been avoided. Children need to be taught that there are unpleasant consequences to their bad decisions. Lack of parental discipline is what is ruining society. Kids don't need you to be their friend. They need you to be their parent. They may hate you for it at the time, but when they grow up they will appreciate the fact that you did your best to raise them right.

I think we have a winner. One boy still remembers vividly when he put his hand on his hips and said "What are you going to do old Ma......................" [Flower] Funny how he hit the floor before finishing his words. [cigar]

Yes, the schools are a big part of this shit now. Last week we had a serious chat with my 17 yo stepdaughter about her asshole attitude and blatantly rude comments she makes to her mom. Her response was "I'm 17. I have rights." [facepalm] After laughing my ass off I told her she had the same rights as her 20 month old stepsister.

I can tell you a 1000 word story about the time her phone was taken away after mother-fuckin us on Facebook, but I won't bore you. Luckily, we all survived.

Psychopaths, sociopaths, and narcissists have been a part of humanity since cave man days.

The only thing new here is the iPod.

True, but the coddling and enabling them to the extent that our society does makes it worse. Look at the sentencing for this one if you need proof. 40 years per murder, one of those sentences completely suspended and nearly half the other. I don't care what anyone says, this kid is NOT going to be safe to release into society after 21 years having spent more than half his life and all of his adult life incarcerated. Think about it, He'll be 39 years old, know every trick in the book and will have learned that there are no permanent consequences for permanent actions. He will be a full blown predator

[word] Someone with Barack Obama's weak background and obvious anti-American mental framework shouldn't have been electable as a dog-catcher even once. Twice as President? Obviously at least 39% of the country suffers from cranial-posterior inversion.

My eldest sister is a sociopath of the worst kind. Genius level intelligence, master manipulator, and utterly without conscience. Thankfully, the rest of my family has seen her for what she is, and has nothing to do with her.

Sounds like one of my uncles. Took me twice having my identity stolen by him to cut him off, I tried to believe a jail stint and rehab cleaned his act up after the first time. However my grandmother refuses to abandon one of her sons, and I worry what could happen when he gets out of jail this time around. She already lost her house because of him.
