Is it just me or has everyone in the administration started referring to the USA as "The Homeland"? Maybe I just missed it before but it seems kind of strange to me.

Only problem is that none of those bad things he mentions are ever going to happen. ;)

I heard that today and said 'wtf'. I pictured motherland in my head along with the hammer and sickle

That's exactly what I though of... as well as slightly more patriotic... then I thought, wait.... the last thing they want is for me to feel more patriotic.... what's actually going on.

You want to fundamentally change a nation? You have to somehow remove the inherit patriotism and nationalism of it's citizens. But, how do you do this? If part, you slowly get people referring to the country by a different name (Department of Homeland Security, November 2002).

Over time you increase the use of this name across lots of various areas - and add to that a new way of thinking about that nation.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/homeland-security
The President is committed to securing the homeland against 21st century threats by preventing terrorist attacks and other threats against our homeland, preparing and planning for emergencies, and investing in strong response and recovery capabilities.

Make the new name a subtle part of the day-to-day conversation via cultural "entertainment". Even those who don't partake of this entertainment will be bombarded by references to it. (Showtime Homeland (http://www.sho.com/sho/homeland/home))

Over time, you remove or play down the focus on patriotism (or outright legislate against) towards symbols of the nation (Court ok's banning of American Flag (https://www.ar-15.co/threads/127011-Court-ok-s-banning-American-Flag-during-Cinco-De-Mayo-celebrations)).

Along the way, you make minor changes, repeatedly, in the direction you want to change the nation - all while using the new name you want folks to identify these changes with so as not to peak anyones interest. While initially these changes and revised names and attitudes capture a little attention, they all become so commonplace that no one even notices them or if they do, there is little to nothing that can be done to stop/reverse the changes.

Eventually, you've made enough fundamental changes that you can start making bigger changes on a faster pace until you've finally reached your original goal.

Think I'm off my rocker? Hitler used these tactics. More recently, the Muslims have been using these tactics repeatedly in various nations; most significantly throughout Europe (and evidence shows they've already started here in the United States of America).

Thing is, in the United States we have several groups (liberals/"progressives", Muslims, Mexican immigrants/illegals) that want to fundamentally change our nation - and not all in the same direction.

Interesting essay titled Homeland: Behind the Buzzword. (http://www.spectacle.org/1201/bartlett.html) Not sure I agree with a lot of what the author stated in the little bit I read, but it's on topic (of sorts).

Here we go again.... I'm selling soapboxes. 3 for a dollar.

Sadly, I'm fresh out of "action". All I got left are soapboxes....
