I will be buying ( agency pays for it :))new duty Glock
and I am trying to decide between g17 and g34 and for sights Truglo TFO vs Trijon HD.
My current duty gun g17 has standard glock night sights.
I want upgraded sights for faster point shooting and good accuracy up to 15 yards.
I dont know if g34 would slow me down significantly?
Any advantages of g34 vs g17 for duty carry?
Any suggestions about Truglo TFO vs Trijon HD

17 over 34 with night sights over tru-glo. . You like to become proficient @ point shooting, black out a rear sight off something other than your duty gun;) work that front sight. It's very easy to learn, even more so to become good at it. My old man taught me point shooting (NYPD Det Ret. 20 yrs) It's 2nd nature to me. All my rear sights are blacked out.
The HDs are NICE, much better than the TFOs. As far as the 17/34 debate either one will be fine, but I vaaaastly prefer the 34 (especially when I'm not paying the price difference). I really can't think of any reason not to get the 34 except maybe holster issues, though Safariland fully supports the 34 so it's not as big an issue. Give it a try, you'll be pretty impressed.
I have Trijicon HDs in yellow on four of my Glocks and I love the shit out of them. The front sight just screams HERE I AM when you're pushing out. Very easy to pick up with the eye, and the deep U-notch rear sight is great too.
I'd go with the G17. The issue with the 34 is the open top slide. If something lodges in the opening it could impede functioning.
I've carried a G17 on duty without issue. My favorite sights are from Warren.

The 34 is awesome for range fun, but I'd definitely take the 17 as a duty weapon, personally. For the reason MAP noted and for others.
I prefer the G34 over the G17 just for sight radius. But if you get the 34 you should go with the HD's because the TFO's front sight hangs over the hole in the slide. I prefer the TFO's because as my eyes get older it is easier to see in the daylight with the fiber optic tube lit up and they have tritium to glow at night. It is easier also to find holsters for the 17, gets real difficult when you have a light on the 34.
Go for the 34 with HD sights. I carry a 35 and know quite a few that carry the 34.

What is the advantage of the 34 over the 17, just a longer sight picture? I personally would probably go for the smaller gun.
I had a helluva time finding the exact holster I wanted but as mentioned above; its out there. I'd suggest safariland ALS TLR-1 compatible mid-ride

Two advantages: longer barrel. Also the 34 and 35 also come with 4.5 triggers from the factory as opposed to all their other models of 5.5

I guess what I mean to ask is do you feel very strongly that the longer barrel of the 34 will be of any value in the type of shooting you'll do on duty, or do you just really want one?
