View Full Version : Car fire/explosion at 104th and Grant
So I heard an explosion at 6:17am this morning. I just took this as the norm where I live where houses explode or airplanes fall onto them. The news is reporting it is a work vehicle that caught fire, then exploded. Looks like a work truck of some type.
Too soon to find an online news report apparently.

Well since both explosions seem to be the direct result of flammable containers leaking and then exploding, I'd say it has little to do with the make of the trucks.
Virginia Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Crandell said fumes from the bottle likely escaped overnight and ignited when the key fob was pressed.
North Metro Fire says the explosion came from two tanks used to fuel a torch for welding that were stored inside the cab of the Ford F350.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, but still better than GM's spontaneous combustion ignition switches. [Coffee]
Ford has more fires, on a per vehicle basis than any other maker who sells cars in the US. They also have more attorneys on a per vehicle basis than any other.
The hundreds of ignition switches and cruise control disconnect switch fires are just a small amount. I have even worked 2 fires on Fords that caught on fire due to the cruise control switch that had the "repair" performed. Drive cars with stupid design, might get burnt.
I remember that last one, because it also rolled out across the street.

Typical Ford truck.
Yup, a WORK truck, so it has to be a FORD. Chebys can't handle being a work truck.[Coffee]

Maybe because there are more Fords in real world work fleets? [Dunno]

That has absouletly NO bearing on what I wrote...
on a per vehicle basis
Maybe Ford owners just can't read the recalls they get sent...

Wow, okay. I have had six of the recalled trucks, and when I read the letters I knew that mine were going to be fine. The fires started from brake master cylinders being overfilled, and the brake fluid leaking into a connector for the cruise control, resulting in the servo never being allowed to power off. Thus overheating and possibly catching fire. Yes, it was/is a real problem. But, even though I drive a Ford, I can manage to keep my fluid levels at the correct level without spilling shit all over.
Wow. After watching the video, the owner frequently makes poor decisions, even with his choice in eyewear.

I just saw more Chevy/GMC work trucks at both Denver and Chicago airports so I know that can't be true!
Now if were ford vans, you win there! [ROFL3]

WORK trucks Sniper. USFS off road fire trucks, tow trucks, ambulances, not too many GM's, more Dodges than there used to be, but that is because the Cummins is awesome.

Um, that is a minor concern. The recalled failure stems from a thin plastic baffle in the switch connected to the master cylinder that is hydroscopic. Brakes fluid on one side the the disconnect assembly on the other. When the water in the brake fluid gets to about 1%, there is enough to be absorbed into the polymer, which then degrades the polymer, which then cracks and is ignited by the connector. The "fix" is to put in an in-line fuse which Ford says eliminates the changes of ignition. Actually, it only reduces it some. Most HD Ford trucks get about 1/2% water increase in the brake fluid per year and the degradation takes some time, which is why the fires are most common after about 3 years of use. I was one of the first forensic engineers in the country to prove the failure mode and most forensic engineers and fire investigators use the methodology my team developed to shut down Ford's bogus defenses.
And don't even get me started on Ford Firetruck fires...just embarrassing to the FDs.
So the real question is: are these new Ford parts, or reused parts from junked out dodges? Cause we know they both suck! Ba Dum TSS!
Here is one from a case I worked on (left) next to a new cruise control switch.

The important part here, is that I HEARD the explosion. It was cool.

So, if you hadn't heard the ford blow up, does an exploding ford still make a sound?

"Cruise control switch"?! Holy 1987!
