Man said he fired bullet into neighbor's home because it was his only way to unload gun (FOX news article)
MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Police in Pennsylvania say a man accused of shooting a bullet through a neighbor's window told a judge he fired the gun because it was the only way he knew how to unload it.
Middletown Detective Patrick Nicastro tells the Bucks County Courier Times (http://bit.ly/1CwbE81) that 31-year-old George Byrd IV of Penndel at first denied being behind the shooting but then acknowledged during his arraignment that he fired the weapon to clear the chamber because he was unfamiliar with guns.
Authorities say Byrd fired the gun early Friday afternoon in the suburban Philadelphia community. No one was injured.
Byrd is being held in the Bucks County jail on $20,000 bond. No attorney is listed on court papers.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8

Special kind of stupid there. [Coffee]
Just curious if anyone has ever personally met someone like this and how do you survive being around them?
I have met many people that I could describe as "2 cans shy of a 6 pack" before, but this just baffles me.
I recall a negligent discharge from an Uzi by an employee. When asked what happened, the employee said they were clearing the weapon in the manner they had been taught. Incredulous, the investigators asked the employee to walk them through exactly how they were taught to clear the Uzi. Once confirmed that the employee failed to follow proper clearing procedure and was unable to identify the instructors involved in the employee's training, the entire training staff was interviewed to insure that no one involved in training employees was that incredibly incompetent.
Later, that same employee who launched one into the deck, was terminated for a hot UA. That is a completely different story for a different thread.
Be safe.
There are a lot of people in the trade I work with that I say are to stupid to die!
Sounds like a blackpowder pistol.

If you clicked on the link in the article there is a lot more. The "Fire to unload" incident allowed police to find a lot more.
He was also;
A 31-year-old convicted felon accused of firing a bullet that broke a neighbor’s window allegedly claimed he fired the gun because it was the only way he knew how to unload it.
During that sweep, police allegedly found several rounds of handgun ammunition on the basement floor.
A search warrant was obtained and executed and police confiscated various handgun ammunition of varying calibers, a .357 revolver, 12-gauge double barrel shotgun an a M77 long rifle, the affidavit said.
Police also found two bullet holes entering and exiting the back of a shed in the rear of the property. Similar bullet holes were seen entering and exiting a fence at the rear of a shed on the Jefferson Avenue property.
Sounded like he was "unloading" a lot of his arms, but surprised no one heard him unloading the previous times before.
A special SPECIAL kind of stupid.
Glad he was not my neighbor...................
Holy crap. Why doesn't he "unload" into the ground at the very least, being as insanely stupid as he is, he could at least go that far.

I had a guy who did this with a 12ga slug.

So this kind of incident is where I part company with those who are absolutist about "shall not be infringed". This guy is clearly too freaking stupid to be allowed unsupervised access to firearms. Even without the prior felony conviction(s), he's a menace to society if that's his procedure for clearing a weapon.

I can understand what you're saying, however it is the antis' goal to eliminate firearms training from the country to show that guns are dangerous. It's an evil and sadistic method, but things like this are the result. Children used to get basic function and safety in school.

A very special kind of stupid when you mix guns and drugs, had to be on drugs to have that kind of discharge and then make up that kind of excuse to justify his actions.

Which is why I am actively instructing in the Boy Scouts; offered to help Bear's Appleseed event with time, guns, and ammo; and have offered to take my neighbors' kids to the range to give them instruction ... but this guy was still a special kind of stupid that shouldn't be operating power tools, motor vehicles, or firearms. Does he just plow a car into the garage door because no one taught him how to use the brakes or open a garage door that doesn't have a remote?

[facepalm] So if you don't know how to clear a firearm, there is this great new invention called Google that can help you with pretty much everything.
He is a convicted felon, how the hell did he get a gun. /sarc

WE NEED MORE GUN CONTROL, BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THERE IS NOTHING ILLEGAL ABOUT WHAT HE DID!!! [panic]
probably used a "loophole" you know like the libs talk about?
the loophole was the "im a criminal and dont follow laws, so I can buy or do anything I want"

Exactly how the idiots on the left think, if some laws don't ever work then we need MOAR lawz.
He's not the only one, either!
Back in my range days if somebody came in and wanted some range time and rent a gun but didn't bring their own we'd do a very simple test to see if hey knew what they were doing. Ask them to load 3 snap caps into a magazine, we then load it, then ask them to safely unload it. If you have a clue it's easy and takes less than a minute. During that last part the guy picked up the gun and started pulling the trigger. The dumb look on his face when I told him he failed the test was incredible. He really didn't know why. To his credit he safely aimed it into a wall away from other people.

Because society has become urbanized and a large portion of the population no longer has a connection to the land or to being self reliant, we now rely on public schools to teach the basics of life to our children. A job mom and dad should be doing but they weren't raised much better.
I say we implement gun safety classes in schools. Make it part of the regular health class. We teach kids about sex and drugs. And the anti's are always screeching how gun deaths should be treated as a public health issue. Here is your solution. Teach real gun safety. Just the basics. 1. treat every gun as loaded 2. never point gun at anything or anyone you don't want to see destroyed, etc. etc. Teach how to load and unload. Just the basics of function and safe handling. No propaganda no agenda, just simple safety. I don't care if the kid grows up to own a gun or not but everyone, even the anti's, need to know gun safety so crap like this story does not happen. Start in elementary school, again in middle and high school. By the time they graduate they have heard the message at least 3 times. Maybe have a weekend course for families to attend to teach safety and safe storage at home. NRA already has these programs ready to go. Why not get them into the schools.
This can also be a political club against the anti's. They claim to be for gun safety, but all their ideas revolve around fear, passing more laws and shaming companies to prohibit guns on their property. But the anti's never talk about real safety such as the NRA first shots program or NSSF Project Child Safe. They only promote fear, not knowledge. Lets shame them into helping promote real safety. Time to stop being on the defensive all the time. Time to attack the anti's for weak ideas and weak leadership when it comes to gun safety.
My 2 cents worth.
