View Full Version : CCW when wearing bibs?

Probably very few of you big city boys ever wear bibs (overalls) but am wondering about those that do wear them at least occasionally, how do you CCW when in bibs? Fanny pack, pocket holster or ???

I'm thinking ankle or one of those belly band deals are going to be your best bet. I think there is also a belt setup that puts the pistol down by your "junk", but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. Obviously none of these options are ideal, and would require lots of practice to become proficient.

Depends on if you wear under britches or not. Fanny pack holster for sure. If I saw a grown man wearing bibs and a fanny pack I'd just assume he's a bad mofo.

i use pocket holster for my 638. back pocket of carharts works fine. Been wearing bibs for a few years (since i had dark hair) ok when i had hair.

Some very good responses already and it's only Sunday morning. I wear bibs all the time. If we are planning on going someplace and it is determined that bibs would be "frowned on" I probably just won't go there. Bib's are my favorite because for some reason, at my older age, I just hate like hell to have something tight around my belly. I currently have four different brands of these bibs and some have shallow rear pockets and some have nice deep ones so the Glock sits really nice in those deep ones. If placing the Glock in one of the front pockets, it gives the appearance of having a squirming puppy in that pocket while walking. Of course, down here in Trinidad, most folks won't give a good shit if a guy is packing anyhow. [blaster]

You need a pocket holster to break up the outline and control movement.

Man, I used to wear bibs all the time and loved them! Got too fat for them, looked ridiculous. I was just thinking the other day how I might pick up a pair when I get slimmed down, they're hella comfortable and great for working in.

But, CCW? I got nothing. Maybe a custom holster/pocket sewn/mounted to the inside of the chest flap thingie?

That's not a bad idea either.

Don't all you rednecks wear your bibs with the buttons on one side all open and one shoulder strap undone anyway?

Just wear a belt bareback commando and strap a holster to it.

Should be easy access from there.

For the win. Pretty much how this redneck does it. Usually just carry ratty hi point on a small chain in a nylon holster in back pocket.

You're doing it all wrong.

Just wear one of these.

Wearing the holster like a necklace (in the picture) could work but that weight on my old neck would just bug the hell out of me. I found a old fanny/belly pack in my pile of stuff/junk and it has large letters "TDK" on it which apparently means it is a camera related bag . This could work just fine as a fanny/belly pack with bibs and even though does look a little strange, I guess I'll fit right in down here in our "redneck" tall pines country. The folks in our local Walmart won't even give me a second look with this get up!

You playin along?

You know I meant that as a joke right?

NOTHING (hardly anything) could be less safe than having a muzzle pointed at your head.

You could just cut a slit on your carry side for easy access to the pistol, but then you'd still have to carry it somehow. Perhaps in a Smartcarry. I think a drop leg would be way to large.

"Playing along" - no not really. I have seen those at some gun shows and some were actually being sold. If I had to have one like that (which I wouldn't) I certainly would not really care to have a round chambered with that type holster and personally would not trust the holster's ability to really retain the pistol.

I have done it for years, still doing it.
Only time I don't wear bibs is in summertime (waay too hot).
I carry my xdm in a king tuc IWB holster.
Even a full size 1911 is no problem.
Have snap buttons on the holster securing it to the bibs for draw.
Seasonal cover garment and you are good to go.

Not at all: Like I said, a cover garment (shirt, sweatshirt in the winter) is still necessary, but a belt not...

I will try to take more sometime this week.
One snap is enough, the front clip hooks under one of the side buttons.

I carry a p238 in my pocket all the time when wearing my "fancy" cloths can't offer insite on bibs but probably similar . I use an iPhone 3 microfiber feeling case. The design of the case makes it grab your pocket when drawing allowing just the pistol to come out

bellavite1, those pictures are certainly appreciated but I am still trying to determine how CCW is accomplished when wearing bibs WITHOUT any outer wear (shirt, jacket or coat) being worn to cover up the firearm.......Thanks!

You could make something that will fit on your chest on the front bib, then sew a cover piece over that so it is always concealed. Think of it like the butt flap on kids pajamas, but on the front, and on your chest.

This could work and could still provide quick access..

Plus, almost nothing looks more natural than sticking your hand under the front when you're wearing a bib.

See?

Update: duty belt worn under overalls.
if the holster is at the 4 position is completely hidden and still reasonably fast to access, no outer garments needed.
Hell, you can even wear your overalls with no shirt...[Flower]

This does sound interesting. One thing for certain, won't have to worry about the combination - holster, belt and firearm falling to the ground/floor as the bib's crotch will always catch the rig.
