So I know a guy that has a 460 mag, 10.5" barrel or whatever for sale I am contemplating. I know it's cheaper then new but how good is the deal? 460, leather custom holster he said he paid $300 for, Burris scope (not sure which model), 170 rounds of ammo but he said 1 box is 454, he has only shot 2 cylinders through it. He wants $1200 for it all. I want it for hunting and just long range fun. Should I jump on it? Since I will have brass reloading is cheap as hell and the ballistics look awesome.

Those things pound the hell out of the scope, a Burris is marginal. I've seen a Burris repeatedly fail on the similar .500 S&W Magnum PC. Might survive the .460 better.
Otherwise, that's a good deal in my opinion. Depends on its value to you however.

Thats the thing, I am set up for 44 mag and I don't think I need more then I can get in the 44. I have been looking for a DA 44 when this deal came up. I know it has more power, funner, and all that, but I'm deciding if the need is there. For that price it's not to bad I wouldn't pay new price.
You can use the 460 out further than you can the .44.
..if that matters to you.
I always thought the 460 XVR gain twist barrel rifling was a pretty cool idea.

I have shot a few cylinders of full power ammo through both the 460 and the 500. I thought the 500 licked less. The 460 was pretty abusive. And I am used to shooting warm 350 gn ammo through my FA 454.
If you can reload, the 460 isnt a bad idea for the recoil and $$$ side of things.
If you dont reload, get a 44.

I had a 460 for quite a while, downrange ballistics are flat out awesome, versatility is good, and it was very accurate. Its an extremely loud gun though with the big brake and not terrible to shoot. I also had a Burris signature 2-7 on it and it held up fairly well. That price is not bad but if you don't hand load its expensive to shoot the big loads.

I cast and reload so other then getting more brass it's not a big deal. It's just kind of a large gun and expensive. I am still debating, maybe I will just get another black hawk and a lever action 44 mag.
