Antelope season was over in less than an hour this year. Was doing my yearly hunting assist for antelope and my son drew his 1st big game tag.
This buck walked withing range and most of the other hunters didn't feel comfortable taking a shot because it was too far. My son says, "I can make that shot." I said take it.
He asks what his hold should be and let it fly. I look over and he is jacking another round into his bolt gun and I told him that it dropped like a ton of bricks.

Lased off the distance and it was just shy of 400 yards!

Many fist bumps yesterday!

Well done dad. [emoji106]

Congrats to son. Speed goats are fun and they taste good.

Bonus on making the shot the others chickened on.

This hunt will not be forgotten.

Congrats. It's always a great feeling to have a son you are proud of. Hell of a good shot and you can tell him I said that. An antelope isn't a very big target at that distance.

No I built him a .270 so he could hunt most of Colorado's big game with the same rifle.

No mount.. he said pictures were enough. Already a meat hunter like his dad.

That is bad ass, I took my boy with me this year as my spotter and helper (he's only 9), but a great time! Congratulations to your son, and you for teaching him so well!

Yes, congrats!

My 12 year old shot his Pronghorn (319 yards) Saturday with the same .243 I shot my first Pronghorn with when I was 13. We ate the backstraps for dinner and we will be making breakfast sausage in a few weeks. The neighborhood kids came and watched us skin and butcher it. Good all around. :)

Get him to into the DOW youth Hunter Education class. My boys took it at 7 and 9 and did great. They are very good.

Congratulations! I'm headed out this weekend with 2 of my girls. Relying on them to put a couple elk in the freezer again this year.
