Annyone know of an Eagle Project?

My brother is working on getting his Eagle Scout rank in Boy Scouts. The final requirement for this rank is planning and leading group of young men in completing a "community service project" (AKA "Eagle Project"). Does anyone know of an opportunity or have any ideas? It can't be a fundraiser. I'm thinking something like building shooting benches or shelters at a shooting range. It needs to benefit a nonprofit, government (like a national or local park) or educational organization. He's looking in particular for something that could benefit shooting or gun rights. Thanks for any ideas, any and all input is appreciated!

When I did this we went to a local park. Like a play ground. We cleaned it, repainted park furniture, fixed the signs.. they were wood ones that we sanded down and varnished with outdoor sealer crap. Raked up leaves and tons of acorns. (This was in Texas) Of course we had some direction from the local parks office on paint colors and stuff that could be done. In fact they paid for and gave us the paint to use.

good idea would be to help out with an adopt a street, or cleaning up a park. talk with the adams county fairgrounds...or any fairgrounds for that matter and they will be able to find something for them.

Check with a few of the local ranges... Weld County Fish and Wildlife range outside of Eaton is one to check with if it's not to far away. Also try Owl Creek (I think that's the name?) a little ways outside of Fort Collins.

Another idea might be to organize a clean up day for one of the Forest/Grassland shooting areas? A while back I had a friend who did this and hauled off a good amount of trash, brass, and shotgun husks. Then donate the brass and husks to your friendly local reloader and keep them out of the landfill. :D The Pawnee Grasslands and Stove Prairie are two that come to mind.

That's real easy. If you have ever been to any of the areas that you can shoot... like by the Springs, the Rampart Range shooting areas, up off of Left Hand Canyon road as well. Those places are a freaking mess due to the douche bags that go out there and shoot and leave all kinds of trash.

The Forest service in the past has even dropped off a roll away dumpster for us when we have volunteered to clean up the area. They also make sure no on shoots during that time so your safe. You can pick on of those areas, call the Forest service for that area and they will help.

I did mine at Wilderness on Wheels (handicapped accessible trails in the mountains). When I did mine, they had tons of projects. Look them up, or let me know if you want contact info.

Your local council office will also have a list of available projects. Remember the project must be approved in concept first.

Thanks for the info! For mine I built a chicken coop for Chatfield Arboretum.
I've heard that Cherry Creek Reservoir park has a shooting range, is it a public/nonprofit?
