23 State Attorneys General To Attorney General Holder: "No Semi-Auto Ban"

Friday, June 12, 2009

On June 11, the top law enforcement officials of nearly half the states signed a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, expressing their opposition to reinstatement of the federal ban on semi-automatic firearms.
"We share the Obama Administration's commitment to reducing illegal drugs and violent crime within the United States. We also share your deep concern about drug cartel violence in Mexico. However, we do not believe that restricting law-abiding Americans' access to certain semi-automatic firearms will resolve any of these problems," the letter said.

The letter notes congressional opposition to bringing back the ban, and calls for increasing enforcement of existing laws.

We encourage NRA members to let these state officials know we appreciate them standing up to the incessant clamor for gun control that is currently coming from anti-gun groups and their media allies.
The 23 state Attorneys General, in alphabetical order, by state, are:

Arkansas – The Honorable Dustin McDaniel
Alabama - The Honorable Troy King
Colorado - The Honorable John W. Suthers
Florida - The Honorable Bill McCollum
Georgia - The Honorable Thurbert E. Baker

There seems to be political wrestling on this. Holder has been attempting to gather support on the ban for his boss.. hence the 'response.'

Letter send and this topic forwarded to others.

In case others wonder just what to say, here is what I said (Bear in mind that I'm long-wnded and full of hot air):

Honorable John W. Suthers,

I am a voting Colorado resident who is a strong advocate for our Second Amendment rights.

I have recently come to understand that you, along with the Attorney's General from twenty-two other states have send a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder expressing your opposition to reinstatement of the federal ban on semi-automatic firearms.

I wish to offer my most sincere appreciation for your involvement in this communication as it shows your dedication to preserving one of the most sacred rights afforded to Americans.

Since settlers first started coming to what is now Colorado to this current era, our citizens have enjoyed exercising their Second Amendment Rights for activities ranging from self-protection to the various recreational uses Colorado has to offer us. With pro-active, positive, efforts such the letter you have just sent, we can expect to enjoy these same activities for years to come.

Once again, simply, thank you.

Did I miss California, New York, and Massachusetts? I mean aren't those three states some of the ones that are in the wost financial shape? Oh ya, they are liberal. I wonder if anyone will ever figure out that the reason why those states are in such bad shape is because of their liberalness.
