So I have been a member for almost a year to Ben Lomond and am about to finally make my first visit in the next couple of days. I have a question for anyone who has been out there previously.
Does the rifle ranges have target stands setup where I can just bring a target and a staple gun or do I need to bring stands as well?
Are there benches to shoot from at the rifle ranges? I wouldn't plan on shooting past probably 200 yards tops for this trip?
Besides paper targets are there any other allowable targets to shoot at? Something that would of course be able to be picked up, possibly a water jug (obviously nothing glass, old microwaves, etc).
I know this thread may need to live somewhere so please move where appropriate, I just want to get some feedback from those who have been there before.
Thanks in advance!!!
Yes there are shooting benches on the long range and yes there are target stands at 100,200,300,400,500 and 600. By the "rules" you aren't allowed to shoot at anything other thing than paper and steel. I have shoot water jugs before without anyone saying anything, clay pigeons are another thing that you can just leave after shooting.
If you shoot on some of the 100yd berms you usually have to find a target stand which can be found down on berm 2 I believe in a conex container.
Follow the range safety rules. Use the hot/cold flags. NO TOUCHING guns or ammo when the range is cold.
There are rules posted on the wall at the long range. Please read them.
As long as you are safe, follow some basic common sense rules, everyone will leave you be.
Lurch basically has it. Paper and Steel and clean up after yourself. Other stuff is frowned upon but whatever you use, pick up your trash. We've shot empty 20lb propane bottles at 600 but pull them when we leave. Technically it's steel right?
There's some heavy steel plates hanging at 600 but usually it's swiss cheese. There was one or two 12-14" round steam plates or something that seem to be surviving everything except AP.
There are usually enough stands out at the berms laying on the ground, put them back on the ground when you're done. If you need additional target stands, there are connex at the pistol berms and one at the long range. The long range connex was pretty empty today but most of the stands were downrange. It doesn't hurt to pick up a littel of the trash you may see when you're setting up - broken stands and any paper that might fly away.
No short yardage target stands allowed on the long range. The dirt pile is for getting on paper only. Shooting starts at the 100yd line. Some A-hole shot up some 500 yd perma-stand posts with a .50CAL.
DO NOT shoot up our railroad tie berms on the long range! Clay pigeons on dirt berms 8-11 (rifle) or the pistol berms are fine.
Some folks get weird if you shoot steel on the pistol berms and they're nearby.
Great place to shoot, the weather is supposed to be fine but dress for heat/cold/wind just in case.
Be safe, have fun and let us know how it went!
Just leave your reloadable brass on the ground, I'll pick that up for ya!

Took my son and my nephew out there today and had a great boys day out. Sunshine all day and just a light breeze. Was a little pressed for time with how long it took me to even get there so I didn't get to tour the entire place. I was fortunate enough to get to meet and chat with Bill and Bebe, they showed me around the club house a little and couldn't have been more friendly. I am very impressed with the place overall, just wish it wasn't so far out there...
