WTF is this about?...
http://benswann.com/oath-upheld-nashville-cops-refused-secret-service-request-for-illegal-search-of-obama-critic/

Chief Anderson, upset that his officers were asked to violate a citizen’s rights in a way that could have escalated into a dangerous situation, contacted then Secret Service Director Julia Pierson and Assistant Director A.T. Smith to file a complaint. Pierson did not reply to Anderson, but Smith did so in a demeaning tone, essentially telling Nashville’s police chief to “mind [his] own affairs” and refusing to investigate the incident.

Federal agents made an improper request of local police and the local police correctly refused. I would suggest that the Nashville PD take the issue to the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General. If the PD doesn't find satisfaction then they can lobby Congress for redress.

All the talk on the Internet will not educate or correct bad behavior, IMO.

Like they care about constitutional rights, I'm just glad there are still people at the local level who do.

There are people at all levels of government who care about Constitutional rights. If the story is accurate, the agents were wrong and they should be dealt with administratively. Perhaps a refresher course in Constitutional rights would be sufficient depending on the results of the investigation.

I wished the story had actually stated what the Facebook comments were that prompted the investigation by the Secret Service. The vast majority of threat investigations end as unfounded, however, the Secret Service has an obligation to investigate even some of the most obviously rediculous threats made on protectees.

This is not a Dem/Rep issue. This is a systemic issue within the SS. Kinda scary that those are the acronym letters.

It's only been systemic since the Clinton administration. The Secret Service and Chicago PD seem to have gotten really Gestapo-like during the reign of Billary. I can't recall any similar stories from the Reagan or Bush I eras.

During the Bush years they took the Gestapo book and rewrote it. It was too tame. This is where we got protest allowed zones miles away from the president and regular strong arm tactics against the people. There is no 'my side does'nt do that'. During Regan, when they let Brady get shot would be closer to when a lot of this started, which is understandable...... To a point.

No one let Brady get shot. Hinckley pulled the trigger of his RG-14 as fast as he could. Brady was hit with the first shot and President Reagan was hit by a ricocheted off the limo with the sixth and final shot. Six rounds in 1.7 seconds.

The biggest and almost immediate change in protection after that shooting was the end of open and closed arrivals for protectees. The Washington Hilton now has a little garage like add on where the shooting took place.

Yeah I agree with Hound on the point that Bush really brought this crap to a new level. Just like the unprecedented spying on Americans, Patriot Act, etc

I will respectfully disagree HB. Clinton had CPD and the Secret Service hounding a couple for not wanting to shake hands with him and the IRS coincidentally sprang numerous audits on political opponents right before the 96 elections. I don't recall any stories even by the liberal media of IRS audits or other harassment of liberal political groups during the Bush II years.

Can Hound or you please cite specific examples of where Bush "took the Gestapo book and rewrote it"? and don't give me the uninformed bilious bilge from Snowden or the Patriot Act. Most of the complaints I've seen about the Patriot Act are right up there with JFK's talk of a "missile gap" in 1962.

key is, some agency's will request anything they want.. does not make it legal, and you pretty much need an attorney to tell them to step off.. the whole houston mayor thing comes to mind... open mouth insert foot chew vigorously.

Not that I have any interest in defending the well deserved reputation of the Gestapo, Stasi, NKVD, or even the Frumentarii, but the US Secret Service has proven time and again that they are not really up to the task of a true internal security service that practices torture and intimidation at the most effective levels. IMO, to suggest that the US Secret Service rewrote any books or improved on any Gestapo tactics just comes off as so much hyperbole.

I will add my $.02 opinion. Based on my experience, President Bill Clinton ruined the US Secret Service. I truly hope that they can one day return to being an agency "worthy of trust and confidence" but I fear that if that ever happens, it will not be likely to happen during my life time.
