If you are simply looking for a way to access .com based internet sites from foreign countries there are VPN subscriptions available to do this. Same principle as it turns your IP address into something recognizable by the US site and you are allowed to view the material. This was how I got around the issue in China... Worked great for Netflix in all countries that don't allow it yet. Purevpn was the site I used.

It is cheaper to go to a McDonalds or public library for basic anonymous surfing. Look around and make certain there aren't any cameras in view of where you are sitting. And most things that you would like to be anonymous should be done on a virtual machine or on a machine running a live CD. Don't forget to scrub your drive periodically. My prefered cheap tool for scrubbing is DBAN.

Basic caveat here...Don't be a criminal, but that should go without being stated.

Evidently the anonabox guys have no idea what they're doing.

There is firmware available for most mid to high end routers that can route all traffic over Tor. This is probably the route I will go.

Two days after press outlets breathlessly (http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/oct/14/anonabox-router-anonymous-kicktstarter-privacy-internet-activity) reported (http://www.wired.com/2014/10/tiny-box-can-anonymize-everything-online/) that magic Tor-in-a-box Kickstarter projectAnonabox was an easy solution for a plug-n-play version of Tor, the project was exposed for getting its so-called "custom" hardware off the shelf from a Chinese manufacturer (http://www.businessinsider.com/anonabox-tor-wi-fi-router-could-be-fake-2014-10) — and it only got worse from there. Infosec communities and hacker figureheads have taken the creator to task (and called for the project to be reported to Kickstarter) and a Reddit AMA went badly for the creator (http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/2je9ms/anonabox_scam_why_i_dont_trust_them/); yet the project's funding has exceeded half a million dollars (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/augustgermar/anonabox-a-tor-hardware-router). The creator of Anonabox has since backpedaled on his claims (http://www.networkworld.com/article/2833845/microsoft-subnet/anonabox-backpedals-on-custom-hardware-claims-as-reddit-points-at-chinese-versions.html).

Did you back the Anonabox on Kickstarter? Login -> Manager Pledge -> Cancel. Hardware runs $20 online @ http://t.co/pPPsIoYSIH

You know what pisses me off about this though? This guy sat down and started a project, and did not have the complete knowledge to back up his claims. But the response was ridiculous, like hundreds of thousands of dollars ridiculous. Then these bunch of security oriented CS degreed types get off on calling them stupid. I think it is stupid to have a multi-million dollar project staring you right in the face and you would rather give someone crap instead of take it on and make incredible amounts of money. It is obvious at this point that there is a huge market for this, why not make it work? Or make something better?

I guess it is just easier for them to sit on their high horse and talk about how dumb it is until facebook buys the kickstarter and makes all the money off of the name recognition.
There's also a market for a car powered by sea-water. Sometimes the technology isn't available to fulfill wishes.
