Direct Head to Solider... No Damage

Pretty amazing. This soldier took a direct headshot from a Taliban sniper with no damage past ringing his bell. Just goes to show how technology in armor is working as designed. One less letter to be written home by his CO!!

Even if it was a shallow hit, if had been an older generation helmet this guy could be seriously injured or dead. I hope he makes it back home.

You know, if there's any silver lining to our ongoing experience in the Middle East, it's in the advances we've made with gear and medical care. When I compare the equipment our personnel are given today and the medical care they get when injured to what we had just 10 years ago, it's like night and day. My det overseas had M16-A1s in our armory (slated for upgrade to A2s shortly after I PCSed but still ...) and just getting AEDs in was a huge advance but the first aid kits were the same as they'd been for 20 years.

True, but we've now supplied the same Middle East with our all of our hard earned advances = net zero.

I'm just happy Ft Carson is so close and gear regularly makes it onto the local CraigsList.
