Hey guys, so I've got a Gen 3 glock 23 and a Gen 4 Glock 35. I'm just now finally starting to upgrade and mess with both of them. I recently stippled them both and I dremmeled the trigger guard as well which I love. Now that I've done that I want to start actually changing out some parts and what not. My question to all of you is, what have your experiences been with some of the companies that make upgraded parts for glocks? I've mainly been looking into Zev a lot and I love their products, I just don't have any experience with any of them. I'm wanting to get a magwell, trigger, and replace the slide internals on both my guns. I'm also wanting to get a new slide for the 35 that has the milling for an RMR. Thanks for the help guys! I appreciate the input!

If you're looking for a better trigger pull, check out the Ghost Rocket 3.5lb connecter. I have on in each of my Glocks and love it. It's a cheap and easy-to-do upgrade that will make your gun a better shooter.

Curious, what exactly do you mean when you say that you "dremmeled the trigger guard". Post pics?

ETA: I use factory night sights on mine. I like them slightly better than standard factory sights during the day, and they are plenty bright at night. The night sights and the lighter connector (along with some light polishing on the connector surfaces) are the only mods to my glocks.

What do you mean you "dremmeled the trigger guard"?

I've had good success in my range toy using a Ghost connector and replacement springs, some light polishing on contact surfaces.

I think he's referring to either the undercut or the index cut.

The only thing I do to my glocks are extended mag release, because i have small hands (ok let the jokes come!). Other than that I just polish the internals, or replace the serrated trigger for a smooth faced trigger.

He means he undercut the trigger guard to allow for a higher grip (I think).
Like this:

OP: I wanted to drop in a good aftermarket trigger when I got my 19, and then I decided I'd try it myself first and if I didn't like it then I'd go by one. I installed a Glock "minus" connector and then polished all of the contract points of all the trigger components with 1000 grit, 1500, 2000, and then Flitz polish with a dremmel and buffer wheel, and it feels great. I like it enough that I dint think it's worth spending the money on an aftermarket one.
Point is, give it a shot before you spend your money.

Just a personal preference, but the only part I always swap on Glock pistols is I install the trapezoid slide lock from brassstacker.com

Polishing internals is something I will get around to eventually, but they shoot pretty well stock for me. I may dremmel the trigger guard on my 22 and the beaver tail on my 27. If I shoot a lot at one time, without wearing gloves, they do leave red marks on my hands.

Take a factory glock 3.5 trigger connector and lightly polish it and it will be as good as any but still more reliable. Other then that I wouldn't change anything. I polish the connector and trigger bar. I use a light grease lube like sigs do for all those parts as we'll.

What are your goals and what do you want to accomplish with the "upgrades"? Unless you are a top lever competitor you don't "need" to do much. On my Glocks I usually change the connector, install the Vickers mag and slide releases and change the sights.

I try to keep as much stock as possible as 1) only a few parts have actually helped me shoot better and 2) so I can pick up ANY Glock out there and shoot it well. I don't always get to use my personal Glocks and have to use what's issued so being able to shoot stock ones well is a necessity. I've seen people with custom triggers & such have a problem when going back to stock (Glocks and ARs) because they are so used to the short takeup and travel on their gun that they "skip" when shooting a normal trigger (meaning they don't go to full reset all the time and miss a trigger pull). For this reason the only internal work I do is put in a Glock 3.5 lb trigger connector (I know, they don't make them anymore). Lighter trigger weight has not helped me shoot better at anything other than bulls eyes and if I'm attacked by a paper bulls eye target then I'll eat my words. Shooting defensively, I have not been any faster or less accurate with a lighter trigger. I use the 3.5 lb connector because it is easier on me on long range days. I don't change the slide lock (it's not a slide release) or the mag release as I want to keep interior profiles low for carry and to maintain commonality with every other Glock out there. I also change out sights to a fiber optic front and a flat black rear, both steel, as that does help me with front sight focus and allow me to get faster 1st rounds on target. The fiber optic front still gives me a good sight picture in low light conditions as well utilizing the metal outside of the sight post.

I've had one of my personal G19s modified last year and so far I'm impressed with it. The finger groves were taken off, undercut the trigger guard and the grip stippled fairly aggressively. I've shot a few thousand rounds through it since and I like the mods a lot. The stippling does well in wet & muddy conditions, with or without gloves on. Without gloves, the stippling does get a bit abrasive on the hands but then I remember I have a pair of balls and I don't anticipate getting into a multi-hundred round gunfight with my G19. The undercut trigger guard does feel a bit nicer than stock as it allows a nice high grip. I wish Glock did this to all their models.

Of course, it doesn't really matter if it is or not. If you say, "No, that's just what I want." is perfectly acceptable. I was just curious.

Ahh, the Lemans of gunfighting. You hear a lot about those at the gun store counter.

Hey guys, sorry for the late response, I've been working and just got off. What I meant by dremel the trigger guard was that I dremeled the undercut and then I also dremeled under the trigger guard where my support hand fingers would sit. My glock 23 is my EDC gun and I'm not looking to do anything too crazy to it, mainly just new sights, and a new trigger or connector and extended mag release. I still want to mess around with some of the options there. My glock 35 is a totally different story, I'm wanting to use that for a competition gun. So for that I was wanting to do a Zev magwell, new trigger, sights, new slide that has been milled for an RMR and an extended mag release and I think that's about it for the 35.

I understand where you guys are coming from about keeping the gun stock so that I'm always use to shooting a stock glock so that I'll always be familiar with other glocks. Neither of my glocks are new to me, I've put thousands of rounds through each one and I'm just now wanting to experiment and mess with them. I have done all the work myself to them and I've loved doing it so far. I will post a picture of my 23 so that you can see what I've done so far to it. The only thing that I've done to the 35 is stipple the grip and dremel the undercut.

I know man, my brother busts my balls all the time for owning glocks. To each his own. As long as you're happy with your gun, that's all that matters in my books haha

This quote came up on Facebook this morning and I thought it was relevant to our conversation. It was in the context of out running your headlights.

"As it was explained to me 20 years ago when I would follow Larry (Vickers) to IPSC matches with other unit shooters, “You learn to shoot the gun you have and as you outperform your starter gun, you replace pieces with tricked out/high end parts to shave a second here and there”."

If you want to check out the Vickers extended slide release / mag release I have them on my Gen4 Glocks. I'm in Windsor just send me a PM.

I took a pretty minimalist approach to upgrading my gen 4 G19. Ghost Ultimate 3.5 connector, polished internals, and had a set of standard Trijicon night sights installed. That said, I really like what the guys at Salient Arms are doing with Glocks these days, so might get myself something special for my 40th.

In the meantime, I like the idea of undercutting the trigger guard, but not sure I want to do it myself.

Extended mag releases tend to get bumped on carry guns. Leaving your mag hanging or at your feet after the first shot.

Nice thing about the Vickers release is that is only slightly longer (on a Gen 3) then the factory release.

I've looked at the Vickers extended mag release before and I wasn't too big of a fan of them. I agree with that quote a lot, like I stated in one of my earlier posts. I've put thousands of rounds through each of these guns. So far the only thing I've done to them both is stipple the grip and dremmeled the undercut, mainly just because I get a much better grip on the gun and I like the way it feels.

I did just put an order in through GlockWorx for their competition spring kit, their V4 race connector and the extended mag release for my 35, which will be my competition gun.

It's really not too hard man, I did both of mine no problem. As long as you take your time doing it and have a steady hand you'll do fine. I start mine using an 80 grit dremel wheel, then I move to a 120 grit then up to a 180 grit. Then I go back over it by hand in the same order with sandpaper and then finally use the polishing wheel on my dremel to clean it up and smooth it out. I'll post some pictures if you want to see it.

Glock - connector and the higher tension trigger spring seemed to help lighten the trigger pull.

Well I guess I'll give you guys a quick update. I ended up ordering a Zev V4 race connector, competition spring kit and extended mag release for my G35. I also bought an extended mag release and a new Zev striker spring for my G23.

I've got them all installed and I was messing with the 35 and so far I love the new release and the trigger pull feels much smoother and more crisp. I haven't had any range time with either yet but I'm hoping to this weekend. Overall, I'm happy so far with how the trigger feels. Hopefully I'll love it just as much when I'm out shooting!

If you really want to kill a few bucks try a fulcrum trigger. I bought one, and probably wont buy another. It is the best glock trigger I've ever had. But still nowhere near a nice 1911 trigger.
