Anybody ever duck hunt Barr lake? I live close but never tried it, got plenty of decoys and thought I might give it a whirl but want wanted to see if anybody has had any luck there

I've been door knocking for about 9 months now looking for private land to duck and goose hunt with no luck. Checked out the public lands and that cemented my thoughts of private lands. Any suggestions for a new person to the state?

Look around for a duck club. That is almost the only way to get into ducks anywhere near denver without driving a long ways.

Ducks are cool. I'm too stupid to hunt them though. Too many rules.

Nice Woody.

I waited for over a year to get mine back from the taxidermist

That is usually the case. The hen was waiting for a year, when he saw this Drake he started working on him right there.

almost alive taxidermy. Excellent work!

Any advice for a newbie to Colorado for duck hunting and where to go? I saw that the canadian geese are pushing through the area hard but I don't know anyone who hunts in the area.

I am in The Springs.

Thank you

My first time out for Ducks and Geese was at Eleven Mile & Spinney State Parks; Public Land with easy access.

Heard some OK things about eleven mile. Haven't heard much on Spinney will look into those.

At 89% capacity as of Nov 13th, covered with ice & closed for the season according to CPW website.

Nice mount. How much that run you?

sniper7

It was $200 a bird and $100 for the box/display so $500 as pictured.

That seems like a fair price. Awesome mount that should last forever.

Reviving this thread as I got out today! Limited out and got luck enough to get this guy...an awesome Bufflehead! Got a female as well but I messed her up pretty good so he will be getting mounted solo.
Tons of shovelers around, some mallards, and even saw a hooded merganser but he was out of shooting range unfortunately. That is the duck I want the most, but redhead and goldeneye are right up there.

Most of the clubs are in major fly zones, and you can get in, and after they sell you there swamp land they try to enforce bogus rules. Look into some of the public land around Crook. Most of that areas private land has long term leases that are locked in for a long time and are high dollar.
Sniper, great job you have a good eye.
