A sensible person expects to see more of this activity, this activity is the new normal.

That's crazy. Someone's suggesting that it's not at all a coincidence, citing that Malala Yousafzai (the girl who defied the Taliban education threat iirc) was going to get her Canadian citizenship today from Harper.

(On a totally unrelated note, that hallway from the video sounds like it'd be a great place for audio engineers to record "eerie" voice sounds. I couldn't make out what they were saying at all, but it'd be a really neat echo sort of room).

Can't wait for "Canada needs tougher gun laws" because they're not tough already and "guns crossed the border from America".

this happening in canada does not surprise me at all.... when i was living in montreal in the 90', the federal and provincial gvt opened their door wide open to immigrants from Algeria (refugees from the civil war). We were promised the "elite" of the algerian societe (teachers, doctors, scientists...), but what we got were tugs and extremists. Within a couple of month 2-3 mosques were open next to where I used to live and the niquab was a common sight in the cote-des-neiges district.... I went back in the late 00' and sure enough the whole neighborhood is going down the drain. Cimes have skyrocketed, and french canadian womens (which are usually pretty good looking) are getting yelled at in the street and asked to cover up....

Mayhaps it's ceremonial. I dunno.

Again, for all of our military-affiliated folks on the forum: OPSEC, OPSEC, OPSEC! Be smart, be safe.

This was in the Parliament and not the Memorial where the soldier was shot.

Nah: less than half of French Canadians wants this. The "Quiet revolution" was quebecois making babies to reverse the population decline. a notable info: over half of Canadian military and RCMP are french canadians.

I read that a high-ranking Canadian officer has advised military personnel not to wear uniforms in public. I have a better idea. Why not let them carry their guns so they have at least an opportunity to defend themselves and others should this (when this) happen again?

I realize that allowing military personnel access to weapons might be kind of an "out there" idea but, hey...it might just work.

If it were me, I'd go with the officer's advice for the same reason I prefer to carry concealed. I was proud to wear my uniform but for the moment there's no sense in making yourself an easily identified target and letting the s--theads set up the ambush.

From: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2804099/Pictured-Recent-Muslim-convert-Michael-Zehaf-Bibeau-shot-dead-solider-opened-fire-Canadian-Parliament.html

Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, the Muslim convert who fatally shot Corporal Nathan Cirillo - a 24-year-old father standing guard at Ottawa's War Memorial, was a petty criminal and the son of a leading Canadian immigration official, it has been revealed.

Born in Quebec as Michael Joseph Hall and raised in Laval, just north of Montreal, the young man lived a quiet childhood of private schools and suburban homes, with a mother who was a high ranking federal employee.
Then, after years of run-ins with the law, he converted to Islam.

Zehaf-Bibeau's mother, Susan Bibeau, still lives in Montreal and works as a a federal public servant for the Immigrant & Refugee board.

She is listed as Deputy Chairperson, Immigration Division.

According to the site, she joined IRB in 1990 as a refugee protection officer, working her way up over her 24-year career.

She holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the Université de Montréal, a Master of Business Administration from Concordia University, and a graduate certificate in business administration from the Public Administration University.

Zehaf- Bibeau's father is a Libyan businessman named Bulgasem Zehaf who once owned a local restaurant, Cafe Tripoli.

He divorced Susan Bibeau in 1999, and there are reports that he fought in Libya in 2011.

Don't forget to let them put bullets in their guns too.
Here's a pic of the guards taken the day of the shooting. Bullets would have likely changed the outcome.

Well hell, if we give them bullets then next thing you know they'll want brass too, and then primers, and so on. This is how they operate, convince you to give in just a little, and then just a little bit more, and before you know it they've got complete rounds and could actually shoot back. Is that really what you want society to turn into?
