I have my choice of which one I want but I have to decide by tomorrow. They are both compact 45's. Both are brand new in the box with holsters. The only advantage is the XD has 5 mags and the 30 only has 2. Which one should I get and why. Thanks!

Completely personal preference. I prefer the way the Glock feels in my hand...it points better, but that's just me. Both are good guns. Isn't the Glock quite a bit smaller though?

Glock all the way, brother!

XD's may be fine sidearms and most probably are. But I've heard enough anecdotal evidence out there to not quite put enough trust in them to ever get one. Maybe it's all just interweb BS, maybe not. But additionally, XD's have only been on the market for a few years now and simply can't have the kind of reputation Glocks do for reliability, ruggedness, etc, etc.

Not to get personal, but have you ever owned a Glock before? If not, this should be an easy choice IMO. I know they don't look like much but once you study the simplicity of how they're engineered, I think you'd really find them amazing.

I had a 30 and loved it. If there ever was one gun that got away from me and I regret it it would be that one. I want a 30SF now. Glock all the way. One side note on the mags......you can use the 21 mags in the 30 as well. You can buy an extender pistol grip thingy (real technical there) and up capacity to 13. I like that because of magazine interchangeability between the models. Well 30 mags won't fit 21 but the other way works. GLOCK over XD.

I'd have to agree, glock is the way to go. I've had 3, I thought the grass would be greener on the other side so I traded for other brands, and I keep going back. Expensive lesson, hope I finally learned it...

I would vote for the XD, I have never been a fan of the way Glocks feel in my hand and the balance of the gun seems off to me. That being said I would try to go to a indoor range and rent both and see which you prefer.

I second that. I have a Glock 22 and I hate it. The grip angle is so severe that I have to force myself to point my wrist down to keep the gun straight and it's very uncomfortable for me, as compared to say, a 1911.

I like the XD for ergonomics, but it's not the prettiest gun.

XD again and again. It is true the XD line has only been around for 10 years, but comes from Springfield armory, which has been making all types of fireamrs since 1778. They know what they are doing.

And again the XD. I don't care for the XDm as much as the XD, but limited time on an XDm. I love the XD. It feels great in my hand, very smooth and gentle to shoot. Very accurate. Easy to teardown and clean. Glock is a bit bulky for me, even for my large hands. And I think it's a better looking gun. JMO

Best advice given so far is to try and get to a range and see what you like better. Glocks are Awesome pistols and have a proven track record for reliability, they are standard issue where I work. I however Do not like the way they feel so I own and shoot XD's. I realize the XD line has not been around as long as the Glock, however the Company making them Springfield Armory has been around waaaaaaay longer than Glock and are a proven manufacturer, I think plenty of the Glock followers fail to realize that sometimes when they judge the XD. Not quite sure what Anecdotal evidence is out there to support the XD not being reliable but to each his own. Just try to shoot them both and see which one is more comfortable to you.

XDm is a better gun than the XD in my opinion, but do they even have an XDm in 45 yet? Not that it matters since that is not one of the choices.

I don't understand the "XD hasn't been around as long as GLOCK has" argument. GLOCK has been around for what, like 30 years? That's not that long either. My point though, is that every product line has to start some where. If it's a good gun, it's going to be good right off the bat, it's not going to wait 30 years before it decides to be good.

Nope. It comes from Croatia. Imported *by* Springfield.

The XD used to be called the HS-2000.

I dont care for either, but the XD-M feels the best when comparing XD to Glock.

If I was to get a striker fired pistol, it would be a M&P. Easy choice.

I was wondering the same thing, but I guess the regular XD45 fits the bill for now.

Just got a 30SF. Love it. Had a 30 and sold it a while back.[Bang] I like the look of the XDM but not the XD. For that matter the Glock is easier to clean, and repair/replace parts, disassemble, and reassemble. IMHO anyways. Go Glock if picking between the two!

Not correct. The old government arsenal has been closed for decades. The "new" SA out of Geneseo, IL is primarily an importer. Most of it's 1911s are from Brazil, and the XD is made in Croatia. It is not a US made pistol.

Unlike Croatia, Austria DOES have a long history of making firearms, and doing it well.

They may not have as "warm & fuzzy" of a "feel", but Glock is a tested and proven design, XD is proven as a plinker and that's about it.

Do yourself a favor, buy a Glock 30, put some night sights on it, and be done. It's what you'll end up doing in the end anyway.

The grip angle is a deal breaker for me, I like the XD have put thousands of rounds through them with no prob, and you’ll be able to more naturally shoot other handguns, nothing against glocks, but they are not superior to the XD by any stretch of the imagination.
