In Witchita a plane takes off, then crashes into a flight training school, killing pilot and people in the school.

Heartfelt sympathy to all involved. I would like to mention though that without a link to a story with more detail, I can only surmise this as "not weird" at all. Entertain my hypothetical if you will: A plane takes off and at some point during the flight, complications arise. The pilot makes the decision to land the aircraft, what better place than a 'flight school' that just so happens to have a 'runway' upon which to land. Follow me here? Unfortunately it sounds as if possible further complications had arisen, or were already in progress and the circumstances resulted in a loss of lives. Again, without further information I'm just taking a WAG here, but in my mind it doesn't sound 'weird' or 'ironic' but certainly unfortunate. Thoughts and prayers.

A friend of mine was working down the street when it happened. Not sure if he was in the flight path or not, but he sounded pretty calm about it.

It's a small airport, but gets used a lot by private aircraft and experimental test flight crews. At one time I had a ramp pass there so I could drive an ez-go cart onto the flight line to take photos.

I don't ever remember one crashing into a building, but a couple crashed on take off / landing.
