So with Halloween tomorrow I want to read your scary or eerie personal encounters. Maybe something your kids said they saw or heard or the ghost that sat on your chest and woke you up from a deep sleep. Or the person you see out of the corner of your eye.

I will never forget the house we lived in on the west side of Brighton. It was haunted and very creepy. The laundry room was downstairs and one of my many chores was folding and sorting our families laundry. I was 16 at the time and my brother was 12. There was a brief period of time that anytime I was down there I was being watched, and when I was going back up stairs I felt like I was being chased so I always ran up the stairs as if my life depended on it. I didn't speak of this until it finally quit or I grew used to it because I didn't wanna seem like a pansy ass 16 year old. Well one evening I went outside to visit with my mom while she was smoking and told her the stories. And she told me that my brother had told her numerous times during the described window of time that he felt the same way. I talked about it later with my brother and out stories were the same.

I also get that I saw on numerous occasions an older man pacing the floors. Never was scared or intimidated just eerie. Random lights would shut off in the house while other lights on the same circuit would stay on.

Anyways I probably won't sleep tonight now buy id love to know your scary/eerie encounters.

Oh yeah and I'm a 30 year old grown ass 6' 230 pound man that fights new fewer than 4 times a week and I CANNOT watch paranormal activity. I've see dead people and I even helped cremate people to help a friend out at his crematorium.

I CANNOT watch paranormal activity.

or the ghost that sat on your chest and woke you up from a deep sleep.

This is a historic phenomenon that has to do with sleep paralysis. If you Google Image search "Sleep Paralysis Demon" there are some cool pictures.

I love threads like this! I wish I could contribute, but I don't really have much that I've encountered. Paranormal Activity totally freaked me out, until the very last scene; then I was mad and never watched another one.

Hell, Man...I'm down with paranormal whatever. I'd like to know that there is something after this miserable life we're living now.

Maybe I can come back and haunt douchebags for fun? lol.

Seriously, I'm open minded to all that stuff.....would like to see some proof though.

I used to work at the Gilpin Casino in Black Hawk. Legend has it that back in the mining days, when the casino was actually the Gilpin Hotel, that a man was run down in the street by a train of horses and killed. His wife, named Lucille, was so distraught by the news of his death that she threw herself out of a 3rd story window of the hotel, killing herself. Since then, the building has been haunted by Lucille and there are many stories about her from employees that have worked there. In fact, the restaurant in the Gilpin today is called "Lucille's".

The most "believable" story about Lucille for me came from a manager guy, Phil, who was about as straight laced as you can imagine. Never cursed, rarely kidded around, always dressed sharp and clean shaven, all business kind of guy. He told me that he was working graveyard one night when the casinos still closed at 2:00AM. A security guard who was working that night approached Phil and told him that someone had thrown a bunch of ice cream cartons onto the floor of the kitchen in the restaurant. Phil checked it out and saw that, indeed, there were several cartons of ice cream on the floor.

Since the building was practically empty except for maybe 5 employees, Phil was pissed and looked at surveillance video to see who's ass he was gonna kick. What he saw shocked him. He saw the door to the freezer open up by itself and the ice cream cartons fly out all at once onto the floor. The video didn't show anyone going into or out of the freezer before or after the "incident". And the kitchen is on the 3rd floor - the same floor Lucille leaped from to kill herself.

Phil told me this story in a mater-of-fact way, like he was explaining how to make copies on a new printer or something. Weird.

My personal story came from the Gilpin as well, though it isn't quite as dramatic as Phil's. I used to close down the poker room every night at 2:00AM. After we did all of the paperwork and bullshit I was the last one to leave so I could lock up the office, etc., etc. One of the last things I did was turn off the sound system and the TV's - we had about a dozen TV's in there. Then I would go and secure my keys, then return to the poker room to get my jacket, briefcase, etc., and then leave.

Several times, I would come come back to the poker room and all of the TV's would be back on, but the sound system would be off. The first time I figured that I just forgot to turn them off. But it happened again and again - not every night, but often. Even when I said to myself "OK - the damn TV's ARE off, right? Yes, they are." Then sometimes they would be on when I got back. And it takes less than 30 seconds to return my keys and get back to the poker room, so it wasn't like someone was messing with me.

Then I thought that there must be a malfunction or something with the remote controls. But there were 3 different kinds of TVs in there, with 3 different remotes. I started to turn off the TVs by physically pushing the buttons on the TVs themselves. Same thing happened every so often.

At first I got the "hair on the back of your neck" feeling, but after months of this I started to be like "Just fucking stop it Lucille!!!!!"

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

I was off work on Monday after elk hunting. I was driving to Schriever AFB where I was returning my camper (I keep it in the RV lot on the base).

I'm a f'king goof and often speak in accents, preferring a sort of cockney English accent (you know, where the word "right" is pronounced "roight"). When alone, I'll often practice out loud with some sort of nonsensical comments.

About 5 minutes from the base I felt compelled to bellow out "You may call me Lit'l Joan" (Little John; you know, the legendary Robin Hood outlaw?!)

So, 5 minutes later I get to the gate and have to show my ID to the female USAF cop. I shit you not, her last name was "Littlejohn".

Eerie? I think so.

Wife had a spooky ghost story happen to her in base housing in IL in the '90's, but it'll take too long for me to type up.

On a lighter note, there's seriously a tombstone in the cemetery above Central City that reads (I forget the exact name and dates):

John Doe

I told you I was sick!

I do have a thing where I will occasionally wake, very abruptly, from a sleep about 30 minutes after I've fallen asleep. Abruptly like I'll spring up in bed and be staring across the room at a black mass that takes up 40-80% of my vision. When this happens, it happens most nights for a period of a week to a month. I don't think it is hypnogogic imagery or muscle spasms startling me awake, as I've woken myself from those and always remember dreaming. This is different and more intense to the point where I've addressed the black mass out loud before. It's happened often enough that I've grown used to it and don't freak out anymore. I believe the black mass is just an optical effect that my eyes make that is the opposite of looking at a bright light and closing your eyes and still being able to see it.

A few years ago, I used to be a part of a team of paranormal investigators here in Denver. People would call us, half scared out of their minds, and we'd do a bit of research and then go and investigate. Of course, we all had day jobs, so it'd be dark and spooky out by the time we'd arrive at the house or business, and these investigations would often go until the wee hours of the morning.

One particular house that stands out in my mind was tucked into the foothills by Red Rocks. There were four adults in that house- a husband and wife, the mother-in-law, and a roommate. The husband was scared out of his mind. He was set to sell the house right then and there, and move away. The wife was a giant fan of the show Ghost Hunters, and immediately latched onto the 'leader' of our group, who was more than happy to slack off and chat about All Things Ghost Hunter. The MiL and husband showed the rest of us the problem areas, which was the MiL's bedroom, and the entire basement. The MiL complained of bruises on her legs that would appear after being pinched- while she was alone in the room, and of something that 'tapped' her head when she was in her bedroom. The husband was scared to death of the basement because there were unexplained cold spots that would appear, and his wife would tell him all sorts of spooky stuff she'd seen on the TV show Ghost Hunters and it truly worried him.

Standard procedure for an investigation went something like this: We'd begin by collecting data from the client, and do a bit of research into the history of the area before we actually arrived at the place. We'd then walk the area, inside and out, taking notes and asking questions of the client. We'd hen split up and begin setting up equipment. Our equipment was mostly mundane; one of the founding members had some fancy gadget that scanned and recorded frequencies or something (he was the only one allowed to touch it.) For the most part, the rest of us had your basic stuff like digital recorders and video cameras. I had a couple of other things- a flashlight and a lighter. We set up a couple of digital recorders in the living area and kitchen, set up a video camera (with nightshot capability) in the living room hallway, facing the MiL's doorway, set up another video camera in the MiL's bedroom and repeated the set up in the basement. Three of us went into the MiL's bedroom and sat in the dark for an hour. While in the MiL's bedroom, one of the investigators suddenly reported feeling a poke on her head. As she was the only one sitting on the bed, we couldn't explain it. After two hours, we all left the house (homeowners as well) for around two hours before returning (the videotape in the cameras would be done by then.) While the team collected the equipment, I was tasked with fining more information about the cold spots with the owner of the house.

He was really, really scared. I felt bad for him; he had himself worked up into a real frenzy by the time we went down into the basement. It was a finished basement, so it wasn't a creepy sort of axe-murderer haven or anything. He would be talking with me and suddenly he would stand stock still and his eyes would get wide as he'd whisper, "There! Feel that? It's a cold spot!" Yes, there were cold spots in the basement, but when I flicked my lighter on, you could see they were from drafts near windows or doors. It helped him calm down some, but not all.

We took our equipment back with us, and processed them the next day. I had two voice recorders. Damn if I didn't have EVP on both of them- one from the living room, and one in the basement. Both EVPs occurred wile everyone was out of the house. I couldn't really make out what was making the noise, and it actually had the sound of words...but I couldn't figure out what was being said. It was pretty eerie.

One of the other investigators had a weird black orb caught on film from the camera facing down the hallway. Oddly enough, it sort of drifted into the MiL's bedroom at doorknob height. I can't recall if it was near the time the other investigator felt the poke to her head, though.

We had a house over in the Lowry area of Denver years back that home alone ( had 3 roomies at the time) dishes in the sink would clang around or doors would randomly open ...

The dishes happened the most often and it was not like a full sink .. Just a dish or two and a bowl... not much Or the front door would just swing open even on perfectly calm days ( no wind)

We named him George. the noises would stop after you yelled at him to cut it out . this went on for years till we got a new roomie with a dog . the dog acted odd at first but we just thought that was him getting used to the new folks and being in a new house... but after a few days he chilled out and a week or two after that we all noticed that George wasn't around making noise anymore, and the doors never randomly opened anymore.

Guess he didn't like Dogs.

I am watching "Deliver Us From Evil" right now while reading this. I use to be so scared of those paranormal stuff and psychokinetic events when I was a kid.
Either I am numbed or just paranormal insensitive now. :(

I like to think that too. Don't worry, he can't have a 3rd term.

I took a big dump once that was so big it made my asshole bleed. Closest thing I've come to something "paranormal".

Seriously though, if I wake up and a ghost is sitting on my chest, is it rude of me to ask him to poop on me?

A few years back when I was stationed at Buckley we had to do constant patrols of the navy reserve building. We'd get constant alarms inside of secured rooms. On a couple of occasions the ships bell would ring on its own. I was the only one inside.

Grey's story reminded me of a time when I left a tape recorder in a room at the Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs as a kid. I played it back and the sound of a loud truck driving by made me jump out of my skin. I remember later relistening to the tape, and you could hear very distinct whispering between my little brother and I yelling to each other between the rooms. It was months later when I listened to it again and remember thinking "That's pretty odd, I should show someone that." Then I lost the tape and only remember it at times like this when people bring up the topic.

Not much to add to this one.

The Stage Stop, in Rollinsville, is reported to be haunted. Video tape and all.

When I first moved into our current house, there were noises, opening doors and such. The joke was to blame it on Melba. Melba is buried in the back yard. "Stop it Melba!" The SO says there have been a lot fewer noises since I moved in. Melba approves?

The house is old and we live in a windy area. Nothing that can't be explained...but still...

Happy Halloween

We have a piece of wood decor that hangs on the wall with some fishing line. The weight keeps it hooked on the wall. It has hung on our wall since we bought our home in 2000.

My father passed away a few years back and we had my mom come out for a visit to help her with being lonely. The weekend she was to arrive my wife and I were awoke in the middle of the night by a loud noise. I grabbed my handgun and flashlight to investigate thinking there was someone breaking in. After a sweep of the back door, basement and door to the garage I went to check the front door. That is when I saw the wood piece on the wood floor below where it was hung on the wall. The fishing line still attached to the piece and the hook still in the wall. No explanation on how it could have fallen. It has never fallen since.

We chalk it up to the old man visiting and letting us know he is watching over us. Miss him.

Random lights would shut off in the house while other lights on the same circuit would stay on.

In-ceiling can lights? Can lights and many other lighting fixtures have thermal switches built in to them to prevent them from overheating and starting a fire, it's quite common for can lights to turn off and on by themselves in homes where they are not properly installed or someone has a lightbulb installed that is larger than the wattage rating of the fixture.

My ghost story involves a house I moved into in Boulder when I first moved here in 2000. For a period of weeks I would see things out of the corner of my eyes only to see that there was nothing there when I turned my head. Drove me nuts. One day it happened again, this time when I turned my head there was a mouse sitting there on the floor. Put out traps and Decon and I quit seeing things not too long after that.

Do you have orthostasis when you "spring up?"

Irving
10-31-2014, 14:19
No sir. It is between laying fully and sitting up at a 90 degree angle at most.

Jeffrey Lebowski
10-31-2014, 14:23
You can still experience it with that, but if you don't have it often, it likely isn't that.
I have it horribly. I cannot stand up without having to do the lean-over-hands-on-knees for a few seconds.

I'd almost blame that on oxygen deprivation. Did you move here from sea level? Perhaps it went away once you were more acclimated?

A precipitous drop in blood pressure which can occur with springing up quickly (from laying to sitting or standing, or sitting to standing) which can cause a "blackout" or "tunnel vision" like effect temporarily.

I have a friend who's house I always belived was haunted by his father. There would be random knocking occuring that seemed to be coming from the master closet at odd hours of the night. One time there were four of us playing xbox in the living room right next to the kitchen and all the kitchen cabinets slammed open. No wind or other factor did that. People that slept in his basement reported awakening to the feeling of being watched.

He got his shit together and none of it has hapened since.

One time at my mom's house my girlfriend and I were staying the night. We both awoke to hear someone stomping up the stairs on her deck right outside my window. I got my ar and cleared the area and there was nothing. Nothing big enough to make the noise could have disappeared from the deck. I took 30 seconds to get outside buck naked so nothing "got away".

Not really a paranormal story but I sure scared the hell out of my old boss at CDOT.
We had 3 Jr Foremen and a Senior Foreman in our area, I was a Junior at the time. One of the other Jr's was one of those guys that could not touch ANYTHING electronic, it would just quit on him for no reason. Electronic watches would stop if he wore one for five minutes. His computer would freeze on him for no reason at all but yet I or the other Jr could use it for hours with no issue.
Now the Jr I speak of was of Norwegian descent, light complexion, fair skinned and blonde as blonde could be.
If he got fired up he would turn beet red. Great guy and a good sense of humor, a bit of a hothead but generally harmless.
We always ribbed him for his electronic woes.
One day myself, the Jr in question (Scott) and our boss (Randy) were having a quick meeting in Randy's office trailer.
Scott is sitting directly across from Randy at his desk and I am sitting by the door with my arms over and behind my head. Scott and Randy are talking and Scott starts to get wound up about something, getting red faced and louder. Randy tries to settle him down but Scotts on a roll, getting redder and louder as the conversation goes.
It's almost an argument, Randy is agitated and Scott is really wound up, fire engine red and agitated.
This entire time I am quietly sitting against the wall, leaning back in the chair with my hands laced on top of my head. Right behind my hands is the light switch.
I very slowly move my hand to it and flick the switch rapidly, causing the lights to flicker in the entire trailer.
The argument/conversation stops immediately and Randy has a look of genuine terror in his face and is fixated on Scott. Scott has this "oh shit, I did that?" look on his face.
They both just continue to look at each other with terror in their eyes until I can't keep it in anymore and start laughing my ass off.
I flicked the lights again and they both started to throw shit at me.
Randy told me later it genuinely freaked him out, he was expecting the light bulbs to start bursting any second.
Good times

Their is a house in Fort Collins on mulberry that backs up to the golf course but the cemetery that is fricken haunted! I lived their with my mom when I was first married. My mom who is allergic to colognes and perfumes would start sneezing fm time to time and their dog would freak out. Then one night my wife woke me up freaking out seriously!!!! I looked over and seen a man standing their beside the bed, but it was like it was made out of bees or something you could tell it wasn't a real man. It didn't bother me I went right back to sleep because I didn't get a bad feeling about it for some reason, but my wife was freaked out! We moved shortly after.
