Took the kid trick-or-treating on base. Afterwards he dumped out all his candy to see what he got, and I found some Charms in there. 3 packs!
Somebody has a sick sense of humor.
Anybody have any good Charms stories from when they were in?

I've heard about it here and there:
A superstition exists among troops about the Charms candies that come with some menus: they are considered bad luck, especially if actually eaten. Some attribute this to a case of a dislike becoming a superstition (i.e. not eating them 'just in case' or because it might make one's comrades uneasy). From Wikipedia

Just Charms. Not Lucky Charms, so therefore the must be Unlucky. They used to come in MREs.
They bring bad luck (extra bad if you're in combat), you eat them or even keep them later and you get the Charms Curse. If you're the field training, it will start raining... you're deployed, you'll hit an IED or some other bad stuff that nature.
Hide some in your PLs truck if he's a douche.

Must only be bad luck for crunchies. Now apricots or chicken bones, bad juju for a tank.

I NEVER even saw Charms in the MRE's I or my troops had (20 year USAF retiree).
Other than Charms Blow-Pops, I've never heard of Charms candy.

I ate the hell out of those things. Sometimes because that the only thing worth eating in some MREs.
They look yummy. I'd eat them.
I always tossed them or traded them with an idiot that was willing to give up a pound cake or m&ms.

Ugh I hate the cheese, of any kind. Even the one with bacon in it. I can't do the fake cheese stuff.
Now the apple butter, that stuff is great.
I watched Generation Kill, so I know Charms are bad juju but never understood why.
Are y'all talking about the cheeses in a tube or freeze dried? Four days in the back country and the squeeze cheese started looking good.

Oh man, I remember those from when I was a kid, used to love those things! Haven't seen any in many, many years. Didn't know they still made them! I'm not superstitious, so I'd eat the hell out of them. But since I've had gastric bypass surgery, they'd probably tear me up and give me the shits, can't do sugar anymore. I had a couple of small Kit Kat bars on Halloween, and they messed with me something awful.
I've never seen the charms either, bu I'll eat the shit out that cheese.

I went and looked because I remember the charms very well. Looks like they were in MRE's from 88-96 packing dates. Of course having worked with USARIEM doing high altitude research since 1989 I have seen things that were not normal issue. I got to be one of the first to try the "never say die bread" along with some other items.
Have to say I never had too big an issue with MRE's. Normally mixed with "A" rats but I have gone 5 months living on MRE's and "T" rats and lived to tell about it. [Flower] One learns to get creative with both.

I was a Bazooka Joe kid, but yeah I loved the Charms too!
We just started all field problems by calling the raingod a pussy. Expect a monsoon and when it only rains you're happy instead of pissed off.
