Here's my Saiga x39.

It has Tapco G2 FCG, Magpul furniture originally made for Mossberg 590, Texas Weapons Systems top cover/rail, and I polished the bolt carrier for some bling.

I dig the handguard. Was it an easy modification?

If you have time to share the mounting details that would be awsome.

I pretty much gutted the inside of the HG with a dremel.
There is a mounting slot inside the HG at the bottom that I made a piece of steel to slide into. I then drilled a hole in said piece of steel and nut/bolted it to the original HG hole. Thus making it so you slide the steel strip into the slot on the HG.
I then got a clamp on furniture mount from Carolina Shooters Supply.

It's actually really easy to do.

Steel strip that IIRC started it's life as an angle bracket that fit well so I beat it into submission (flat)

Clamp on furniture mount which negates the need to pull the gas block.

So in the end, you slide the HG on the steel strip, then bolt trough the HG into the clamp.

Move the front sight back. You want that AR look, it's your gun. Next time you're in the neighborhood, i'll show you how an AK is suppose to look.

Have to get the sacred clothes out of storage. Bimmer could pass for one w/out any clothes modifications.

whats up with the front sight?
looks like a normal front sight pushed forward.. or did I miss something?

I noticed some AKM's have the sight gas block together, I have read mixed reviews on longer sight picture or bringing weight off the tip of the barrel.

Any pictures of the inside of the hand guard. I would like to do this.

Also, is this the mount you used? http://www.carolinashooterssupply.com/product_p/css-bc-small-rounded.htm

I can take it apart if you need me to. But you really just gut it to fit. You can't screw it up unless you were to somehow go through it. All I used was a dremel with a rotary cutter and to finish I may have used one of the rotary files. I really don't remember. But I do know that it looks like a train wreck inside. All I cared about was fit. Nobody can see the finish.

The hand guard is it just the standard carbine length AR 15 model?

Big John
12-01-2014, 17:53
The hand guard is it just the standard carbine length AR 15 model? No. It's for a Mossberg 500, or Remingtion xxx shotgun. Thus the necessity for gutting everything but the slide part on the bottom. Once you hold the HG in your hand it will all make sense. It's really very easy to do. You did the hard part by finding the mount.[Alrigh]
