View Full Version : Democratic Party racism in the 20th century
ZERO THEORY

We're still in the age of required liberal arts credits for degrees, and as such I find myself in a 20th century world history course. Professor is a self-professed Democrat who has somehow managed to include Bush-bashing, Reagan, Ted Cruz, Romney, et al. into his spiel so far. I haven't punched him yet, and I've been calling him on his bullshit (calling the dean on Monday to roast this shambles of indoctrination). But I'm going to stick with the class, since it's a three weekend accelerated segment for four credit hours.
Topic paper is on Democratic Party racism in the 20th century. I've already got a couple of books and plenty of articles, but would be glad to use any academic sources you have on hand. In other words, blogs and the like are inadmissible, so I'm looking to stock up on published, cite-able sources to absolutely crush the Ds with. LBJ, Robert Byrd, Jim Crow laws, the Klan, you name it. The more the merrier.
Thanks to any and all contributors.

I would try to look into recent examples. History is history but Dem's also say that things have changed. I would focus on things like why Dem's pride themselves on social programs which enables people to live off govt. instead of on things to help them advance. Things like that. Keep it recent.
Or start with the history and how they were racists and how it's changed to a different form.

Go read the writings of Booker T Washington and Frederick Douglass.
Honestly, how one can read Booker T Washington and not be immensely inspired (regardless of one's race) is beyond me.

As long as they occurred in the 20th century, I will. But I'm not counting on liberals to play by the rules. He laments about current politics, but if I start hammering Obama and the 21st century gang, I'm willing to bet my score will get hit.

How about more recent happenings. For example, NAACP refuses to congratulate Tim Scott on being the first elected African American Senator from the south since reconstruction mainly because he is a Conservative Republican and not a Democrat. Or how about Mia Love being the first black (Shes actually Haitian) female elected to the Senate. The narrative only applies to those not associated with the left. If Tim Scott or Mia Love had been democrats the likes of the NAACP and the rest of the lame stream media would heap nothing but praise on them. The best they can muster are the race baiters Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Then you just play the race card and start a scandal.

Lol, I nearly asked you where you were attending, because that teacher sounded familiar; until I remembered that was every college professor I every had.

Time will tell. Like I said, I've got to get in touch with the Dean so that I've got a record of his practices in the event I have to take a potentially doctored grade to the board. I was really losing it right off the bat and almost walked out right there on the first day, but I'm not willing to sacrifice my education to a liberal. I don't surrender to charlatans.

I've had a group of students complain about me to the Dean for doing a presentation on the emasculation of modern men. But this really enrages me. I pay money to learn, not be indoctrinated. It's really demotivating to feel like you're just jumping through hoops and taking out what amounts to a loan so that you can get a degree that allows you to make exponential return on investment. Sure, there's an end in sight, but learning was always fun to me. Classes like this remove the learning aspect and turn it into busywork.
I've been wanting to read this for a while.

Much appreciated. I had forgotten about the eugenics movement.

Thankfully I'm a STEM guy. My saving grace is that this is basically my last off topic pre-requisite besides environmental ethics next semester. I feel terrible for people trying to practice law or get into business who have to endure this kind of non-sense in virtually EVERY course they take.
Eugenics in American politics is a fascinating topic. Americans apparently had a great deal of influence over Germans pre-WWII, which lead to some terrible tragedies in Europe.
If you are looking to narrow your focus, looking at the Democratic primaries for the 1984 Presidential election might prove interesting. Jesse Jackson was actually considered a serious contender by some within the Democratic party that year. His Rainbow/PUSH coalition still exists, and even though Jackson ran again in 1988, he was never again considered a serious candidate.
Just a suggestion.
Dont forget about Margaret Sanger and her blatant racism and dedication to the master race through abortion clinics

Some of it is busy work/filler/credit/part of the price of the degree.
My best fiction was for progressive profs.
I don't have any literary sources to provide, but I'm full of knowledge that you can quote on how shitty the democrats and liberal mindset is if that helps any.

This is why I'm glad I'm getting my degree from WGU. None of the political crap to deal with.
But from what I can remember: Dems had a lock on the south until the 80s because they were the party of KKK, racism, and segregation. Eventually the northern and western democratic elite figured they could buy generations of votes by pandering to them and giving them welfare, which basically has kept them as a permanent underclass for generations. The south didn't change to voting republican because the Rs suddenly went racist, even though that's the democrat meme they like to espouse. No, they simply went with the only other choice once they felt like the dems abandoned them. Which is weird, because they haven't, the Dem leadership figured out a way to mostly segregate blacks into the inner city ghettos for generations more.

I am definitely looking forward to schelacking LBJ and the way he crumbled Black education and created a system that rewarded complacency.

Grab a couple of Ann Coulter books. She had a recent book "mugged racial demagoguery" that lists the stats in the downfall of black families under the Dem programs.
A few cited examples from her book ought to cause his head to explode.
Have a feeling he'll immediately write off Ann Coulter. Grab the book and cite directly from the study and cut out the middlewoman.

For the OP, try http://www.historyisaweapon.com/zinnapeopleshistory.html
I have the hard copy, and I didn't know it was on-line.
I would suggest starting at Chapter 17. Look for commentary during the Kennedy and LBJ administrations.
I do think it will be humorous to cite a book by a liberal (at least I think he is) to prove your point!

Yup. I use books by people like that as aggregators of data. They give me loads of it, I choose which to use, and then go straight to citing the study. It really leaves people unplussed when you can cite 20 different sources to shut them up.

It's too bad you can't just point out the window and tell this professor, "Open your eyes, dude. The proof is all around you." Too bad everything's not that simple with leftists.
Perhaps some Star Parker works would be useful?

I know nothing regarding the validity of the links, so who knows. However the National Black Republicans site is interesting. Like to sit in class the day you use that info.

http://depts.washington.edu/civilr/kkk_politicians.htm
At the national level, the Klan is alleged to have elected dozens of Senators and Congressmen in the 1920s. Though at the local level Klan politicians were both Republicans and Democrats, nationally it was the Democratic Party that was most associated with the Klan because of intense infighting at its 1924 Presidential nominating convention. Klan allies fought tooth-and-nail to oppose the nomination of New York Governor Al Smith because he was Catholic, and conflict between delegates went from rhetoric to fistfights. The negative publicity from this infighting supposedly helped Republican Calvin Coolidge win the Presidency that year by a landslide.

No sources, but perhaps you could talk about how the Dems say that voter ID is racist, and yet you need ID to buy booze, get into government buildings, drive, etc.

She footnotes her books pretty well.
Also check articles/books by Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell. Some of the less known issues are things like the minimum wage, davis bacon, and labor laws to make it harder for blacks to work, as they worked cheaper.

Not forgetting the DNC convention. NO ID, NO ENTRY.
You know, there are several colleges and universities that don't indoctrinate you into the progressive movement.
Not sure why you would choose to give your hard-earned money to those that do.
Good luck with the paper - your indoctrination progress will unfortunately be reflected in your score.

Definitely this. Both are brilliant and very talented writers who make reading their material quite enjoyable.
I don't have the time today to do some research though this is a great topic. If you aren't already using it, Google has a great resource for academic articles at http://scholar.google.com/ , when I was working on my Master's at Regis I found more good sources through Scholar Google than the Regis library. I did often have to grab the DOI from the Google search and then go back to the Regis library site to get access to the article.
And my other favorite resource for all the papers I wrote is the Citation Machine at http://www.citationmachine.net/ , I hated putting together APA formatted citations and with this site you just plug the info in and it makes the in-text and reference page citations.
