View Full Version : Your morning commute
So, my commute that should have taken me 45 minutes took me nearly 50 this morning.
I'm guessing some of you had it much worse than I did.
I wonder which one of you won the big prize for worst commute?

55 miles one way, Usually takes me about 45-50 min. Today took 55, Damn herd of elk in the road. Yummy delicious elk.

My 35 minute commute took over an hour today. I do take some back country roads, but still I couldn't go over 30 the whole way. Yay winter.

I'll go for a prize on the other end of the spectrum, and Monky will really hate me...
The bedroom was a bit cold, maybe upper 60s this morning when I got out of bed and moved to my desk in the corner that serves as my office to attend a conference call at 7am.
It probably took me 8 or 9 seconds rather than the usual 7... [Coffee]

The traffic between the kitchen living room was horrendous. There i was carrying a plate of eggs and corned beef hash in one hand, cane in the other. Fending off 2 salivating dogs whose minds were like one. Vainly making an attempt to cross the space between kitchen to the safety of the recliner. My mind racing between the final goal and which of the dogs would try tripping me up before i made it.
With the pack circling, plate of food held close to chest (holding it high the pack see's a challenge) close to the chest, fear of harming one of it's masters. I was getting closer and closer to the recliner, dogs hounding me like my ex-wife. When all of a sudden THE Cavalry arrived. With a shrill whistle and command of PLACE bellowing form the spouses mouth, pack in retreat I made it.
Wonder what challenge lunch might bring. Stay safe fellow travelers, stay safe.
I said many bad words this morning. I put 2 brand new tires on my car in anticipation of this crap, and picked up a 4 inch stub of welding rod somewhere on the way home last night. It entered through the tread and out through the sidewall. Fuck.
So I pulled it off(refusing to put the useless minispare on in the snow), dropped my wife off at work, and came to the shop. I left the house at 0640, and with the very small side trip to drop the wife off, my 28 mile commute from Aurora to Golden took a mere 2 and a half hours. Double fuck. Now I have to go get another tire, bring it back here and mount and balance it, then go get my wife at 1530, go home and bolt the goddamn thing back on. Fuckfuckfuckityfuck.
I go about 5 miles from home to kids school to work. Usual is 10-11 minutes. This morning, 40 minutes. Watched a girl slide to a stop, while she was texting...amazing morons were out in force.
About 5 minutes. Had to swing by the fridge before I went to the desk.
I was permitted to work from home today.

Normal 1:15 took 1:45, better than I expected.
I am doing the virtual office with my team from home today; My commute would have been over two hours.

today is my day off...although the 70* weather in Vegas isnt making traveling difficult
I have to be in at 1500, not looking forward to tonight or tomorrow night, probably leave the house around 1350, grab something hot on the way in. Normally takes 20 min to downtown, be curious to see how long this afternoon's drive will take.
Took me 60min to get to the flea market from my house (Brighton). I pulled into the Fed Center at 0715, 1.75 hr drive in.

How is Vegas treating you? Trying to get the wife talked into a warmer climate, closer to her folks in Cali, but she lived in Vegas for 5 years and doesn't want to live in the dessert again.
Thank goodness I'm on leave right now, no commute for me, except maybe the gym. You guys be safe out there.

136th and I-25 to 40th and Chambers with a stop to drop one kid at school and a second stop for some DD coffee... 1 hour, 40 minutes. I stayed off of the highways and took my time, enjoying the sliding and minor fender benders. Only cursed twice. Once at the school as someone attempted to force mass into a space already occupied by other mass. The second time was someone who thought it would fun to execute a swift turn into traffic and traverse three lanes of traffic. The ensuing braking and sliding fortnuately did not result in any physical contact.
Really looking forward to the drive home. Leave extra time and arrive alive [Flower]
Be safe.

24 miles each way - usually takes 35-40 mins. Today it took about 40 because I did it at 5:30 and I beat the rest of the traffic, otherwise it would have easily been an hour.
My 5 minute commute...took 6 minutes. The insanity!

My commute was fine, only took and extra 5 minutes because of the icy roads. But, it did take an extra 7 minutes of vehicle warm up time as well because it was f'ing 3 degrees out when I left for work.
All the cars I saw spun out this morning (4-5) had Obama-Biden stickers on them.. Made me giggle like a little school girl.
Drove up the mtn in Steamboat to the 4 points lodge via the catwalk.. No traffic. :)

My usual 12 minutes took 15. I couldn't live in a big city again. I can't even imagine it with snow.
16 miles usually in ~25 minutes... this morning it took twice that... just shy of an hour.
I'm leaving work early, in about 90 minutes...

Vegas has been really good, a lot better than the wife thought it would be. The people have been friendly, there are plenty of things to do. You are close enough to places to go see snow or beach. No state income tax and your not in cali.
I made my appointment today for 12:30, then left my house at 10:30 am to make sure I had time to get there. Most of the traffic had died down by then.

What kind of woman move is that?! You need to be ready for full blown action at any minute. First gear, clutch held in, rpm held at 3,000. Just in case.

Had to go pick up my glasses after work yesterday. It took me almost half an hour to get from I-70 and Kipling to Colfax and Kipling. I ended up diverting to Miller once I hit 20th, it was so bad. Going home was just as bad.

40 minutes to travel remaing 30 miles. Road was mostly dry last 18 miles. We only got 1/2" - 1" of snow anyway.
About 30 mins longer than normal commute.
I have a 1400 mile commute on Friday. Does that count?

Commute? [hahhah-no]
Coffee in bed
Brief bit of felatio
Sexors
Shower
Downstairs for more coffee
Upstairs to office
Looking like next week I get to commute to Dallas.
I will have to suffer my penance the rest of the year with a project in Co Springs.
I've threatened to just stay there during the week, the wife is not amused.

My first boss that I served with AD lived in parker and worked at Ft Carson. He bought a condo down here just because it was so much less hassle during the week. When i first started I stayed with friends in Aurora for 6 months. A few fridays like today i drove him home on 83.
My current commute is 3.5 miles. and 3.2 is driving across post.[Flower] I am "Mission Essential" so it is time to hop in the shower.
