I was at work yesterday, and a guy who works in the next building over came to talk to me about obtaining a CCW, cause someone told him I had one. He was asking questions about how to obtain one, how much it cost, etc... Then he says, and I'm not even joking.."You can carry it concealed, but it has to be unloaded right?" My first response was no response at all due to my incredible shock that someone could be so blatantly stupid.

I said "Why the hell would you carry an unloaded gun? What use would that be?" He says, "Well I figured it was just for the imtimidation factor" Cause, right, once you pull a gun and your attacker realizes you have no ammo in it, what are you gonna do, throw it at him?!?!?

What the fuck. I clearly told him that he has no business even OWNING a gun, let alone carrying one. He called me an asshole for laughing at him and said "Thanks for Nothing".

Are people seriously this stupid? What has happened to Colorado?

Ah yes, the great migration of libtards and retards. I got a similar story.... I was out in NF sighting in a gun I just built and a hiker walked up on me. I unloaded my rifle and opened bolt so not to "scare" him and he proceeded to walk up to me. We BS'd a while and he started the politics conversation. I didn't give him my 2 cents but he proceeded to give me his and his affiliation. DEM! He then asked me about my gunsmithing and pulled out a pistol from his pack unloaded and told me it was for protection from the wild life and bad guys. I had to wonder what he would do if a mountain lion had committed to eating his ass.[Bang]

do they not put gas in their car?

don't they know that an unloaded gun is an unhappy gun?

you should have just worked with the dude. we KNOW that these libtards are fucking idiots...but they are making the move to come over to gun ownership. then you treat them like shit....I understand the guy is retarded and needs training, but those are the people you take to the range, treat them like a 5 year old with a gun, safety first, only cover what you are willing to destroy, and build them up.

you can turn these people and you blow them off like that? that is stupid.

I like the comparison to educating a child. Obviously the coworker needs to start from a more basic point than getting a CCW permit. I hope you do everyone a favor and point him in the right direction to some basic education.

I think what you had here was someone who was ignorant, but not stupid. He appears to be intelligent enough, but lacked the knowledge or experience to understand the information. Educate the ignorant, ignore the stupid.

I think you missed a chance to educate someone and bring them into the fold. Sure you can joke about some of their responses and make lite of the situation, but I still believe you missed an opportunity. I've had the fortune to educate many of my co-workers and even brought 3 folks around to getting their CCW's. Not bad for a tree-hugging conservation agency.

You can fix ignorance... but you cannot fix stupid.

Tell your friend to take a good CCW class, then he'll understand. No need to laugh at him in my opinion.

I try to 'educate' as many people as I could since I have the exposure to many clients daily. Most of these clients walk through my office have completely crazy 'obama' is our savior idea about their mortgage, and that gun is bad. I typically present the facts as we touch the subject. Being in the mortgage business and having a gun safe in the perimeter guarantee those two subject'd come up each time.

I figure if I can open a set of eyes per day, I have contributed some. Don't shut them down.. educate them instead.

this still annoys me. i think you need to go talk to the guy. tell him he did the right thing coming to you...someone who is educated about firearms and CCW. from what you said it even sounds like he has half an idea how the things work, but just didn't know.

I bet you didn't know everything either. Some guy may laugh right in your face when you ask a question about a gun you know nothing about.

if it were me I would talk with the guy, get him set up with a CCW class (lots of guys on here offer them) and I would apologize and explain why you reacted the way you did.

keep pulling this kind of shit on these types of people who are willing to learn and they will all be driven to the dark side and try to fuck gun owners in every way possible for being arrogant, self centered and egotistical.

I totally agree with you guys about educating the ignorant and i would have. This guy is just plain stupid. I repeatedly assured him that you are within the law to carry a loaded weapon but he could not comprehend it. Even before you guys said to i apologized and even brought in a copy of the colorado CCW statutes and he keeps telling me im wrong and that "he read it somewhere that the gun must be unloaded by law" He is a fucktard.

BadShot
06-24-2009, 15:59
Dude as long as you are doing your best to educate, that's all any of us can do. You've done the right thing with apologizing and getting him a copy of the statutes. He might just be confusing where you can and cannot carry, it happens more often than I'd like to believe.

...he keeps telling me im wrong and that "he read it somewhere that the gun must be unloaded by law"...
He's confused between self defense weapons and hunting weapons.

The law in many places (CO too?) is that long guns being transported (hunting guns or two/from a range) must be carried in the car UNLOADED only.

I'm sure that's what he's heard or read (be it here or elsewhere).

yeah I showed him that in the 2009 Colorado Big Game regulations book, where it says "(Except Handguns)" When referring to carrying a gun in your vehicle. I think I finally got through to him. He said he's still going to call the sherriff's dept. to make sure I'm telling the truth.[Bang]

Ummmm...why do people at work know that you CCW, and feel free to tell complete strangers about it?

It is not a stretch that someone who might hear this would want to go visit your house while they are 100% certain that you are not there.

They'd also be 100% certain to run into my wife holding an 870 Pump as well. That is if they could even get past my dogs.

I don't care if anyone knows I have a CCW, hell half the time I open carry.

ALot of guys I work with have one. I only do in those rare instances when it's not practical for me to OC. I really don't beleive in it though, i think the "Permit" should be repealed. We need to be more like Alaska and Vermont.

None intended Foxtrot. if anyone is willing to help out the uninformed, it's me. I'm always trying to convert people, and have done that quite a bit lately. I convinced my mother, at the age of 59, to shoot a gun for the first time in her life. She's always hated them, because she had an irrational fear of them.

I finally convinced her to come to the range with me, and just try out a dinky .22, and she flinched real hard when she pulled the trigger and then was like "Wow, that wasn't bad at all!" And then promtply emptied the whole magazine. Fast forward a year later, she now owns a .38 and shoots regularly. Even wants to go hunting.

I would have been more than happy to educate this gentelman, if he were sincere. He just kept arguing with me, telling me that I was wrong and "Someday I'd be arrested" Like someone else said, you can fix ignorant, you can't fix stupid.

If I were him, I would have called you an asshole also, then again I wouldn't be asking questions like that.

With that said, I still find it rather hilarious that my non gun owning friends think that I am required to have "papers" to even own my pistol. They are even more suprised when I tell that that the only "papers" required are if I were to carry the gun loaded and hidden while out in public.(not in vehicle) Most don't believe me that you can carry a loaded gun in your car however you want. Kalifornia Mindset indeed.

Why are you guys giving the OP shit?! He clearly stated in his follow up post that this guy is not a sensible/intelligent man and backed it up with the whole story. He then said he apologized for coming off as a dick. People here just like beating a dead horse I guess.

If confronted with the truth and you argue about it... I would have turned up the asshole-ness towards him or ignored him altogether. But I'm just a dick I guess. "F" him for being born so freaking terarted. Move on to the next potential cross over with a brain.

And don't buy into this ....you got to coddle people shit! Laws are laws. They are even written down on paper. If you can't read and believe...well I think I already covered this. Grown people aren't the ones "we" should be focusing on anyways. Its this guys kids. Hopefully he has none so not to pass the dumb gene.

Guess that will get a rebuttal......

Want to help preserve shooting rights & have a future? DONT BE A Turd! [Tooth] everybody has been "stupid" and ignorant at some point regarding firearms. You just don't remember when you were. Had some asshat come along when you were in the ignorant stage and turned you off the hobby, you might not even be here at all, and you might be waving the "guns are bad mmkay" flag at capital hill.

Lesson to learn here: If they ask a stupid question, TEACH them the answer. Emphasize safety points. Theres an extreme lack of good experience in the firearm world, you can't blame people for NOT knowing. It's selfish not to share yours! It's okay to tease, it is NOT okay to be a turd, even if they act retarded. Now your one hash mark on the chalk board for him not wanting to own firearms at all - which then waters down to include his wife, his children in the future, his neighbors.. etc.

I don't mean to sound mean here or anything - I just hate seeing the "ignorance" of helping people in its own kind all around me. No offense intended.

Ignorance is not offensive, but when you combine it with arrogance, the result is stupidity, which others have asserted cannot (maybe should not) be fixed. I myself will endeavor to educate the ignorant, but am reluctant to attempt to help those that already "know it all".

Are people seriously this stupid? What has happened to Colorado?

Um, YES! People are definitely that stupid - as a whole. More and more I see us getting dumbed down. I think this is the result of many factors like the crap fed to us on television, music, the web (this site is an exception), governmental policies, company policies, etc. Stupidity is all around us. Most folks (esp. the libs) fail to realize this fact and that makes them more susceptible to letting it rub off on them.
